As the EE/Vision Systems Intern, you will contribute significantly to an active R&D program, taking on areas of development such as EE/Vision sub-system design characterization/analysis, test method development, and test execution. You will have experienced EE and Vision engineers located both remotely and locally in Pleasanton as technical mentors, along with your direct supervisor, the Director of Vision & Sensor Systems. You will work closely with other R&D functions such as Instruments (Mechanical), Systems, and Software Engineering, as well as cross-functional partners in Quality, Manufacturing and Clinical Development Engineering. 

In This Role, You Will: 

  • Assist in development, testing, and analysis of camera & sensor electronic/optical sub-systems 
  • Partner with an engineer to design, prototype and evaluate electronic/optical sub-systems and test fixtures 
  • Perform optical and electronic bench testing, debugging and data analysis 
  • Perform root-cause analysis for prototype and production device failure modes 
  • Prepare design documentation, test protocols and reports 
  • Perform other duties as required. 

Who You Will Report To:

  • Director, Vision & Sensor Systems

Requirements: 

  • Undergraduate (current junior/senior) or graduate student pursuing a BS or advanced degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or optical engineering 
  • Minimum 2 years experience in analog and digital circuit design and debug 
  • Work location:  Pleasanton, CA 
  • Travel: 0% 
  • Full time employment 
  • Ability to read and understand PCBA schematics/drawings/BOMs and electronic component datasheets 
  • Proficiency with Python for data analysis and measurement automation 
  • Hands on laboratory electronics skills including soldering, cable harness assembly, and operation of test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies) 
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: optical component/system design & characterization, image signal processing algorithms, image sensor hardware electronics  
  • Ability to work in a Linux environment  
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Eagerness to learn and accept challenges 
  • Ability to solve problems and analyze data 
  • Ability to think and work independently and in teams 
  • Compliance with relevant county, state, and Federal rules regarding vaccinations. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prior internships or co-terms in the medical device industry, or structured coursework focused on medical device development.

We also offer a compensation plan as follows:

  • Competitive hourly rate of $28/hr (undergrad) - $30.00/hr (graduate students)
