Position Title: Electrical Controls Engineer
Reports to: Plant Manger
Summary
The Electrical Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining control systems, automation equipment, and electrical infrastructure to support Vital Materials’ manufacturing operations. This role ensures equipment reliability, process efficiency, and compliance with safety and quality standards. The Electrical Controls Engineer will work closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to implement improvements, troubleshooting issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives across production facilities.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, or related field
- Minimum 1- 5 Years of experience in electrical controls and automation in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or similar), HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial networking.
- Experience with motor control systems, variable frequency drives, instrumentation, and sensors.
- Experience with ABB and FUNAC robotic systems.
- Familiarity with safety standards (NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA) and electrical system compliance.
- Proficiency in CAD software for electrical schematics (AutoCAD Electrical or similar).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain PLC, HMI, and control systems for automated manufacturing equipment.
- Develop and maintain electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation for all systems.
- Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLCs, drives, and industrial networks.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot ABB robots using Robot Studio and the Flex Pendant interface
- Support daily operations by diagnosing and resolving electrical and automation issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new equipment and system upgrades.
- Plan and execute control system modifications to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Assist in commissioning, startup, and validation of new equipment and automation projects.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical and automation systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects by integrating new technologies and automation solutions.
- Train technicians and operators on safe and effective use of control systems.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in electrical and automation systems.
- Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of control system design, safety circuits, and industrial automation principles.
- Hands-on experience with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, Profinet).
- Familiarity with data acquisition, SCADA, and HMI.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Team-oriented, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

May be required to support other facilities or vendors as needed.

- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- You must comply with all safety standards and wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Ability to climb stairs and access equipment platforms as needed.
