LondonEnergy operates the second largest waste contract in the UK, handling and processing nearly 750,000 tonnes of London’s waste every year. We have a dedicated team of people working across our various North London sites, making a positive difference to the environment and the local community.
By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough waste from energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, control and instrumentation (EC&I) plant and process issues, delivering safe and effective maintenance, repair, installation and commissioning activities.
- Plan and deliver preventative and corrective maintenance in line with statutory legislation, manufacturer guidelines and the PPM system, ensuring all inspections, testing and records are compliant and up to date.
- Prepare, review and enforce RAMS, permits and safe systems of work, actively promoting a zero-accident culture and acting as an Authorised Person / Sanction for Test where required.
- Provide technical leadership and hands-on support to plant operations, including out-of-hours cover, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable asset performance.
- Lead, supervise and coordinate EC&I teams, apprentices and specialist contractors, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, timekeeping and performance.
- Support OPEX and CAPEX projects, asset management and continuous improvement initiatives, working cross-functionally with engineering, projects and operations teams.
- Act as deputy to the Electrical Engineering Manager, managing documentation, KPIs, shift cover and departmental performance to ensure operational resilience.
Requirements
- Willingness and flexibility to work outside normal hours, including call-outs and shift cover, to support a 24/7 operation and lead response to plant breakdowns.
- Ability to work safely at heights and oversee high-risk maintenance activities, ensuring teams comply with permits, RAMS and safe systems of work.
- Time-served Electrical & Instrumentation engineer with a completed apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification.
- Strong technical experience with industrial control systems (PLCs – ideally Allen Bradley), AC drives, HV distribution and associated plant; pneumatic systems knowledge advantageous.
- Proven supervisory experience managing and coordinating skilled EC&I technicians and contractors in a heavy engineering or process environment, delivering work to tight deadlines.
- Sound working knowledge of IEE Wiring Regulations, PAT testing, health & safety legislation, and the ability to maintain accurate technical and compliance records.
- Confident people leader with excellent communication and decision-making skills, capable of motivating teams, enforcing standards, promoting a strong safety culture and acting as a senior point of contact on shift.
