Job Profile

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist & Team Lead will manage programs and projects that promote workplace safety and environmental compliance across the organization. This role involves developing and implementing safety training, procedures, and emergency response plans, while ensuring adherence to OHSA regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Manage Environmental Health and Safety Programs and Projects

  • Plan, design, develop and evaluate company wide safety programs including training and procedures under the direction of the EHS Manager
  • Plan, manage and execute projects with internal and external stakeholders related to workplace safety, occupational hygiene, internal or external audit, and environmental compliance
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the OHSA and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation
  • Lead investigation and RCA of workplace incidents, develop corrective actions along with relevant stakeholders, prepare WSIB and MLTSD reports if required and facilitate external communication related to incidents
  • Monitor and develop reports for internal stakeholders related to KPI metric’s, incident trends, and hazardous waste generation and develop and propose actions to address gaps
  • Develop and coordinate emergency response plans and conduct drills
  • Lead and participate in risk assessments and help implement strategies to mitigate hazards
  • Lead and coach participants in workplace inspections and safety investigations
  • Lead and ensure the functionality of Joint Health and Safety Committee as required by legislation
  • Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and practices are adopted to minimize hazards in the workplace
  • Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet local, provincial, and federal OHSA requirements
  • Monitor the daily activities of staff by scheduling their work and monitoring timelines to meet targets and achieve departmental and company goals

Support and drive Continuous Improvement (CI)

  • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in specific CI projects and establishment of Standardized Work
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture

Perform Other Duties

  • Perform other duties and complete additional projects as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with Chemistry knowledge
  • 6-10 years of experience in safety, environmental, or compliance with an understanding of OHS management systems, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • CRSP designation is an asset

  • Lab or chemical operation experience is a very strong asset
