Overall purpose and responsibilities of the role
The E-commerce & Digital Marketing Lead is responsible for defining, executing, and continuously improving the client’s e-commerce websites marketing strategy to drive traffic growth, conversion, and revenue across all company websites.
This role requires a hands-on, entrepreneurial leader who can identify opportunities, build databacked plans, execute campaigns, and lead a distributed team in a fast-moving, resource-conscious environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy & Business Growth
- Own the end-to-end e-commerce marketing strategy for all company websites, ensuring alignment with sales, conversion, and brand growth goals.
- Develop site specific marketing strategies and translate them into tactical, data-driven execution plans.
- Act as the category and market expert, deeply understanding customer behavior, competition, and industry trends.
- Identify why performance has plateaued and design practical, testable initiatives to accelerate growth.
- Traffic, Conversion & Engagement
Traffic, Conversion & Engagement
Drive qualified traffic and conversions through a balanced mix of:
- Working with the team in strategizing and prioritizing SEO, SEM/PPC, and email marketing as key traffic and revenue channels.
- Assess current performance across each channel and identify high-impact growth opportunities.
- Ensure SEO best practices are applied to core pages and content; determine when deeper optimization or external support is required.
- Plan, launch, and optimize paid search and PPC campaigns, defining budgets, success metrics, and ROI targets.
- Lead email marketing strategy and execution, including promotional, lifecycle, and retention campaigns.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to execute initiatives efficiently.
- Track performance, test improvements, and continuously optimize based on data and business impact.Content and on-site merchandising
- Affiliate and remarketing initiatives
- Leverage best sellers, promotions, messaging, user reviews, email campaigns, and on-site events to acquire and retain customers.
- Optimize UX/UI and on-site experience to improve engagement and conversion rates.
Execution & Operations
Be hands-on in execution, especially in the early phase, able to launch campaigns, write or refine content, and implement improvements directly.
Oversee day-to-day e-commerce operations including:
- Website maintenance
- Product setup and optimization
- Sales monitoring and performance tracking
- Work closely with Purchasing to keep assortments fresh and collaborate on revenue-driving promotions.
Data, Budget & Performance
- Build marketing plans supported by clear rationale, projections, and success metrics.
- Own and manage the e-commerce marketing budget responsibly to maximize ROI.
- Set performance goals for campaigns and initiatives; track, analyze, and continuously optimize results.
- Use analytics to inform decisions, prioritize initiatives, and scale what works.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and influence a small, distributed marketing team (designer, marketing associate, consultants).
- Evaluate existing tools, roles, and external partners; recommend changes where needed.
- Provide leadership, structure, and accountability in an environment that values autonomy and ownership.
- Collaborate closely with company leadership on priorities, investment decisions, and long-term growth direction.
Innovation & Technology
- Stay current on e-commerce trends, tools, and technologies.
- Evaluate marketing and commerce applications (subscriptions, automation, analytics) to ensure they are optimized.
- Recommend and test new tools or approaches that improve efficiency, scalability, and customer experience
Must-have Skills / Qualification:
- 5+ years of e-commerce / digital marketing experience (flexible for strong candidates)
- Proven ability to build traffic, conversion, and revenue
- Comfortable operating with ambiguity and limited structure
- •Strong analytical mindset with hands-on execution capability
- Experience in FMCG / CPG is a strong advantage, not a requirement
- BigCommerce experience preferred, but not mandatory
