The Corporate Development function at Wealthsimple is a lean, but high-impact team responsible for accelerating the company’s growth through mergers & acquisitions, investments, and strategic partnerships. As Director of Strategic Partnerships, reporting to the VP of Corporate Development, you will own the vision and execution of Wealthsimple’s corporate partnership strategy. Your mandate is to drive meaningful business growth by building strategic alliances that advance our product roadmap and expand our market reach and distribution. You will identify and pursue high-value partnership opportunities, cultivate senior-level relationships, and lead the full partnership lifecycle—from origination through negotiation and execution. Partnering closely with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams, you will ensure these alliances deliver clear, measurable business outcomes. In this role you'll have the opportunity to:
  • Own the full partnership lifecycle—from value proposition development through prospecting, deal structuring, negotiations, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Create compelling business cases that demonstrate clear mutual value and secure buy-in from Wealthsimple's management team.
  • Build and nurture executive-level partner relationships that expand in scope and impact over time.
  • Align the partnership strategy with product roadmaps and corporate priorities, driving top-down strategy for new opportunities. and prioritizing opportunities based on strategic value.
  • Craft persuasive partnership narratives that articulate clear strategic benefits for all parties.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to implement the partnerships and ensure these deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Contribute to strategic build/buy/partner analyses to inform key business decisions.
  • Skills you'll bring:
  • 10+ years of experience in product / corporate / strategic partnerships, business development, or strategic alliances, preferably within FinTech or financial services.
  • A proactive ownership mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated success in sourcing, negotiating, and managing partnerships with significant business impact.
  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) and relationship-building abilities across executive and operational levels.
  • Commercial acumen and analytical rigor to structure deals, model outcomes, and drive data-informed decisions.
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives while coordinating cross-functional teams.
  • Superior negotiation, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proven networking abilities with external stakeholders.
  • Bonus Points: Experience with M&A transactions and valuation modeling, enabling you to support activities on the acquisition and investments side when needed.
