SUMMARY:

Gossamer Bio has an outstanding opportunity for a motivated and accomplished computational biology leader to join our lean Translational Science team. We are seeking a visionary bioinformatics leader who thrives at the intersection of biology, technology, and data science. This is a chance to build and drive cutting-edge translational bioinformatics, leveraging AI/Machine Learning and multi-omics innovation to transform clinical development and precision medicine. The successful candidate will join a biotech environment that values creativity, impact, and rapid execution, and will partner closely with Translational Medicine, Research, and Clinical Development teams to shape the next generation of patient-centric therapeutics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis of clinical biomarker data by developing and executing exploratory biomarker analysis plans (genetics, proteomics, RNA‑seq/single-cell, imaging), including pre-specification of hypotheses, endpoints, and statistical methodologies
  • Support clinical development programs by ensuring exploratory biomarker results, analyses and deliverables meet project timelines and regulatory-grade expectations, if applicable (data integrity, traceability, documentation)
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (Clinical, Research, Biostats) to perform (hands-on) and/or direct multi-omics data analyses and integration across various domains and apply best-in-class algorithms to directly address the motivating biological and clinical questions. 
  • Drive innovation by applying advanced bioinformatics, data science, machine learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods to interrogate high-dimensional datasets, enabling mechanism-of-action insights, drug response biomarkers, and data-driven patient stratification.
  • Effectively lead bioinformatics CRO relationships by developing work plans, fostering efficient communication and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Translate complex findings into clear narratives for clinical teams, governance and external audiences (posters/manuscripts)
  • Develop and scale the translational bioinformatics and AI platform and strategy, building a lean, high-impact team and external network to support future pipeline growth

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certifications, Experience

Required:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in computational biology, bioinformatics or biostatistics with 10+ years of biotech industry experience and a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Expertise in next-generation sequencing algorithms, pipelines and applications (including single cell genomics)
  • Strong coding skills (eg. R, Python) with an excellent working knowledge of public bioinformatics databases, emerging technologies and reproducible research practices.
  • Experience in pulmonary disease, fibrosis, inflammation, immunology and/or cardiovascular biology.
  • Scientific curiosity and creativity, with an ability to identify questions that computational approaches can address, and the skills to develop solutions both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating and executing data science algorithms and machine learning/AI models.
  • Proven ability to bridge computation and biology, with an entrepreneurial mindset and track record of driving innovation from concept to clinical impact.
  • A deep understanding of biology and the drivers of human disease would be a plus.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), data presentation and visualization skills.
  • Experience leading productive collaborative relationships, including remotely and across cultures.
  • Comfortable communicating science and influencing strategic decisions at all levels.

The expected salary range for this position is listed below. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  This position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. This position also qualifies for the benefits as listed below.

$231,000$272,000 USD
