Purpose of Position

The Director, Project Management will establish and lead EdReports’ Project Management function at a pivotal moment in the organization’s product transformation. Reporting to the Chief of Staff—who functions as the Chief of Program Management across the organization—this role will operate as a senior delivery and operating-model leader, partnering closely with the Managing Director of Product Management and other senior leaders.

As the first hire for this team, the Director will help stand up the Review Design Innovation team—one of EdReports’ first formal product teams—and will play a central role in translating organizational strategy into coordinated, reliable delivery. This leader will both do the work—leading complex, cross-functional initiatives—and teach the work by building shared understanding, systems, and practices that enable empowered teams to inform executive decision-making.

Over the next year, the Director will hire, develop, and lead a team of Project Managers who steward delivery, embedded Product Operations, and transparency across EdReports’ product and program portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead the Project Management function, including defining standards, tools, and operating rhythms that support a product-led, learning-driven delivery model.
  • Partner closely with the Managing Director of Product Management and product leaders to translate strategy, roadmaps, OKRs, and governance decisions into clear delivery commitments.
  • Lead delivery and embedded Product Operations for high-priority initiatives, pilots, and launches within the Review Design Innovation team and beyond.
  • Design, operationalize, and continuously improve portfolio planning, roadmap stewardship, intake, prioritization, and delivery lifecycle processes.
  • Build and maintain systems for transparency, including delivery metrics, dashboards, decision briefs, risk tracking, and executive- and board-facing reporting inputs.
  • Enable cross-functional delivery by surfacing dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs; coordinating escalation pathways; and supporting informed, timely decision-making.
  • Educate and coach teams and leaders on modern project management, product operations, and agile delivery practices aligned to EdReports’ values and governance needs.
  • Hire, onboard, manage, and develop a team of Project Managers, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, equity, and continuous improvement.
  • Steward delivery tools, documentation, and knowledge systems (e.g., workflows, templates, playbooks) to balance standardization with team autonomy.
  • Model EdReports’ Core Values and DBIE commitments in leadership approach, decision-making, and team culture.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned to support the organization's strategic goals, with the expectation that all EdReports employees remain flexible and adaptable to evolving responsibilities.

Outcomes:

  • Product initiatives move from idea to delivery with greater clarity, predictability, and quality.
  • Leaders and teams have shared visibility into priorities, progress, risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Project Management practices are understood, trusted, and adopted across the organization.
  • A high-performing, values-aligned Project Management team is built and supported.
  • EdReports strengthens its ability to scale product work while maintaining rigor, transparency, and trust with the field.

Travel

National travel will occur related to organizational needs and for professional learning, as needed. Amount of travel will be monitored to ensure it is appropriate for both the organization and this role.

Required:

  • Passion for EdReports’ mission, vision, core values, and our commitment to Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity;
  • 6+ years in project management, product operations, program management, or a closely related field within complex, cross-functional environments.
  • 3-5 years of people management experience, including hiring, coaching, and developing team members.
  • Strong working knowledge of modern project management and agile delivery practices, with the judgment to adapt practices to organizational context rather than applying rigid frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success leading delivery for product-led or iterative work, balancing agility with governance and accountability.
  • Experience designing and scaling delivery systems, planning processes, and operational tools across teams or portfolios.
