Director of Operations & Strategy

TLDR

Help build the operational foundation for Shelf's AI-driven solutions, managing diverse teams, processes, and automation in a fast-paced environment.

Director of Operations & Strategy

About Shelf:

We're building AI that is changing the world. The workforce of the future is going to be multi-dimensional, multi-faceted, conductors of both people and artificial intelligence. We're looking for someone who can do that.

Shelf is the OS for agentic AI: a platform that models your policies, workflows, and operational logic into an AI Data Model so that AI agents don’t just respond, they reason. The result? AI that understands how your business actually runs and delivers precise, compliant, auditable outcomes at scale.

Brands like Amazon, Nespresso, HelloFresh, and KeyBank use Shelf to power their AI agents that automate workflows, improve efficiency, and turn long processes into automated work. We’re partnered with Microsoft, Salesforce, OpenAI, Snowflake, and Databricks — and recognized by Gartner (Cool Vendor) and IDC (Innovator) for our approach.

About the Role:

Let's cut to the chase. This is a really hard job where you'll solve company problems, shovel sh*t, and execute ops strategy and tactics. If that doesn't sound like something you're willing to do, please save everyone time and apply somewhere else.

We’re looking for a swiss army knife. This person will manage all things Ops as we scale Shelf to the next level. This is a fast paced, long hours work environment that will require a detail oriented and very disciplined person. The role requires highly organized project management skills and the ability to not get flustered in high stress environments.

This is a builder role, not a maintenance role. You will design, implement, and optimize the systems, processes, and frameworks that power our ops, HR, legal, GTM, and customer delivery teams.

What You’ll Do:

1. People Ops:

  • Manage end-to-end employee onboarding, including offer documentation, system setup, and first-day experience.
  • Own offboarding processes, ensuring smooth transitions, access removal, and documentation compliance.
  • Maintain and update employee records, HR systems, and internal documentation.
  • Partner with leadership on HR processes, policies, and employee experience initiatives.

2. Legal & Compliance Support:

  • Coordinate with external legal counsel on contracts, NDAs, and general legal requests.
  • Track and manage key legal documents, renewals, and compliance requirements.
  • Support internal processes related to risk, compliance, and documentation governance.
  • Ensure operational adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.

3. Systems & Tools Management:

  • Own administration of core internal systems.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and system provisioning/deprovisioning.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day system issues and coordinate with vendors when needed.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows through better tooling and automation.

4. Operational Support & Execution:

  • Support day-to-day business operations across GTM teams as needed (Sales, Customer Success, Leadership).
  • Manage internal processes, documentation, and task tracking to ensure consistent execution.
  • Assist with vendor management, procurement, and basic budgeting tracking.
  • Take ownership of ad hoc operational projects that keep the business running efficiently.

5. Implement Automation & AI-Driven Workflows:

  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes using AI and tooling.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to operationalize internal AI use cases.
  • Improve efficiency without adding unnecessary complexity.

6. Office Operations:

  • Own day-to-day office operations to ensure a smooth, productive work environment.
  • Manage office vendors, supplies, equipment, and facilities-related needs.
  • Coordinate in-office logistics, team events, and internal meetings.
  • Ensure a high-quality employee experience for both in-office and hybrid teams.

What We’re Looking For:

Experience:

  • 6–8+ years in Operations, People, BizOps, or similar roles.
  • Experience in a high-growth SaaS or AI company.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling operational systems.
  • Consulting experience is a plus.

Skills:

  • Highly organized.
  • Project management ninja.
  • The calm in the storm.
  • End-to-end extreme ownership.
  • Can concisely communicate complex ideas to others.

Hard Skills:

  • Experience with tools like Salesforce, HubSpot, Rippling, Ramp.
  • Can easily zip around Google Sheets and make easy to use spreadsheets.

Mindset:

  • Even Keeled — won't get flustered easily and can work in stressful environments.
  • Builder — thrives in ambiguity and fast-paced environments.
  • First Principles Thinker — designs for scale and efficiency, not short-term fixes.
  • Operator — strong ownership and accountability.
  • Be an optimist.

Why This Role Matters:

At Shelf, operations is not a back-office function — it is a core driver of growth and competitive advantage. You will help build the operational foundation that enables Shelf to scale efficiently, deliver better customer outcomes, and power the next generation of AI-driven customer experiences.

Shelf provides the essential infrastructure for deploying Generative AI at scale, specifically designed to tackle data quality challenges that hinder accurate AI outputs. Aimed at businesses looking to enhance their AI capabilities, Shelf ensures that organizations can deliver reliable answers by eliminating poor data. With partnerships including Microsoft, Salesforce, and OpenAI, Shelf is positioned to make AI readiness accessible for various enterprises.
