Director of Knowledge and Research Management

Role purpose

Responsible for the leadership, day-to-day management and continuous improvement of the Knowledge and Research Management function and resources in Control Risks’ Asia-Pacific Business Intelligence practice, and in close coordination with the global BI practice. He/she will ensure that knowledge and information is organised and made available to increase process and project efficiency, and drive excellence in research across the practice, which will support the growth of the regional business.

Tasks and responsibilities

Knowledge management
 Conduct a gap analysis against best practice of BI APAC’s existing processes for the collation, processing, maintenance and dissemination of strategically important organisational knowledge (knowhow).
 Building on the findings of the gap analysis, produce a roadmap for significant improvements in knowledge management processes, with the end goal of a knowledge management programme that maximises efficiencies and enables the practice to better leverage and preserve knowhow. The roadmap may include:
 Developing templates and frameworks which can be embedded in key processes to drive efficiency.
 Identifying and utilising technology to create internal efficiencies and improve knowledge-sharing to meet client needs.
 Improving our knowledge and information systems, including instantly accessible databases of i) current and past projects; ii) case studies; iii) marketing collateral; iv) sector expertise; v) team profiles; vi) proposal and report templates; vii) legal documents and client terms; and viii) research guides.
 Producing customer and market insights to support business development and thought leadership.
 Where necessary, assisting with the implementation and training to support the effective take-up of new systems.
 Ensure Knowledge Management activities are clearly articulated, coordinated and rationalised across the regional BI team.
 Ensure maximum collaboration with stakeholders such as Practice and Geo-market office heads, IT, HR and Learning & Development and Marketing.

Research Management & Training
 Drive best practice in creative, innovative research and information finding
 Review database subscriptions and purchases with a view to maximising efficiencies and return on investment.
 Maintain and improve our library of research and training best practice guides.
 Coordination of the working groups within BI APAC to ensure they deliver against their stated research and innovation objectives.
 Coordinate training on our information systems, databases, resources and our approach to knowledge management to all BI staff
 Review and refine our standard testing and interviewing of candidates, and our onboarding processes for new team members, to ensure consistency across the practice.
 Review, refine and consolidate all internal and external training materials in a central site for the practice.
 Review practices around subcontractor selection and onboarding, scoping and tasking, and management through the project life cycle, and implement improved guidance and training.
 Oversee the use and procurement of research tools and resources, including holding product demos and staff trial periods and staying abreast of new technologies and research developments relevant to team methodologies.

Management of the Quality Review Team
 Provide line management to and oversight of the regional Quality Review Team

Risk and compliance
Working with BI Management and other stakeholders (e.g. in Legal, Information
Security and Tech Assurance):
 Map the information workflow of BI and identify, develop, and implement an improved process for the handling, transfer and retention of the team’s data.
 Implement agreed BI protocols for reviewing and retaining work product in line with group (DRAD), local jurisdictional and client specific requirements
 Establish a process and standard operating procedures to manage cases that present elevated information and data security risks to our client and Control Risks
 Review and implement the use of encryption in our communication with clients and subcontractors and implement improved guidance and training.

Requirements

Knowledge and experience

Essential

 Ability to classify, map, index and categorise knowledge into something manageable for navigation, storage and retrieval.

 Experience in implementing knowledge taxonomies, classification and information organisation techniques.

 Experience in assessing and implementing new software and systems for knowledge management.

 Ability to train staff at all levels in the use of knowledge management tools, frameworks and processes.

Preferred

 Hands on previous experience of conducting research for investigations and business intelligence

 Experience of working with geographically dispersed teams.

 Experience of change management and driving change across regional teams.

 Experience in managing people.

Qualifications and specialist skills

Essential

 Strong track record of similar work experience in a professional services firm.

Preferred

 Degree or masters in knowledge, information or systems management.
