Protective Insurance Company is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Financial Reporting to lead the financial reporting function for our Asset Protection Division (APD). This role is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and presenting financial results, ensuring timely and accurate statutory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) reporting. The Director will provide strategic leadership to APD accounting teams, oversee audits and third-party administrator (TPA) reviews, and support key projects across the division. This position requires strong collaboration with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, as well as external stakeholders such as auditors, regulators, and reinsurers.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare internal GAAP financial reports for the Asset Protection Division and present results to senior management, explaining variances.
Oversee the preparation of GAAP financial statements for APD legal entities.
Lead and manage APD accounting staff, fostering employee development, engagement, and high performance.
Coordinate audit and examination materials for auditors, state insurance departments, and regulators.
Provide financial expertise and support for various APD projects and initiatives.
Maintain regular communication with senior management across Sales, Marketing, Compliance, Claims, Risk Management, IT, and Product Management, as well as external auditors, customers, agents, brokers, and reinsurers.
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge Required
Advanced knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
Strong understanding of the insurance industry; experience in Vehicle Service Contract business preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial software systems.
Exceptional leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under demanding deadlines with strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
FLMI or other industry designation desirable.
10–15 years of financial/insurance accounting experience.
5–10 years of leadership experience managing accounting teams.
