About the Job
The Director of Finance is a critical executive role at the heart of Space Inch’s growth strategy. Success in this role looks like one thing above all else: fast, accurate, and reliable financial information that drives real decisions.
This is an agency business, and the primary strategic mandate is clear: improve margins. That means identifying cost inefficiencies, optimizing resource allocation, understanding project-level profitability, and driving financial discipline across a lean, distributed organization. You should be equally comfortable fielding high-level, ambiguous questions from the C-suite and diving into the details yourself; owning both strategic insight and hands-on execution without losing precision.
Reporting directly to the CPO/COO and collaborating closely with the CEO and CTO, this role sits at the very center of executive decision-making. This is a unique opportunity to step into a lean, dynamic organization of ~80 employees with multi-million-dollar revenue and a global footprint and build something that lasts.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive margin expansion and operational leverage: Identify cost inefficiencies across the P&L, analyze project profitability, optimize resource allocation, and surface actionable opportunities to improve financial performance across all revenue streams and delivery models.
- Own financial reporting with speed and precision: Ensure invoices are accurate and timely, produce management dashboards and financial statements that are fast and reliable, and proactively keep the executive team informed without waiting to be asked.
- Lead financial planning and forecasting: Own the annual budgeting process, rolling forecasts, cash flow management, and financial modeling across project delivery cycles, product roadmaps, MVP launches, and legacy modernizations.
- Streamline and strengthen the finance function: Build internal controls, clean up processes, and establish an operating model built for speed and accountability.
- Embed AI fluency and systems thinking: Actively leverage AI tools to improve the accuracy, speed, and depth of financial analysis and reporting. Partner with engineering to evolve internal financial systems as part of Space Inch’s broader AI-driven transformation.
- Provide strategic financial guidance to non-finance leaders: Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for product, design, and engineering leadership to support agile decision-making, selective project intake, and high-quality commitments.
- Manage liquidity and evaluate investments: Oversee cash flow, evaluate capital expenditure decisions, and drive ROI analysis for AI/UX initiatives, engineering resources, and technology investments.
- Ensure compliance and risk management: Maintain adherence to relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and best practices (including those applicable to NAICS 541511 custom software development) with robust internal controls.
- Participate actively in executive decision-making: Contribute to management meetings, present financial updates with clarity and confidence, and engage in high-level strategic planning with the executive team and board.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA, CPA, or advanced degree strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including a minimum of 4 years in a senior individual contributor or leadership role, with mandatory experience in US finance and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven track record in high-growth technology, software development, SaaS, or client-services environments, ideally in an agency or project-based model where margin management and resource optimization are core.
- You have done this before in a similar context: you have stepped into a fragmented or under-resourced finance function, built structure from ambiguity, and delivered reliable, fast reporting that changed how the business made decisions.
- Strong expertise in budgeting, cash flow management, financial modeling, forecasting, and reporting in fast-paced, project-based settings.
- Demonstrated AI fluency: you actively use AI tools to improve speed, accuracy, and quality of financial work; you are excited to help build the systems and workflows of tomorrow, not just maintain the ones of today.
- Experience supporting high-growth environments (B/C-round or PE-backed companies) and scaling software businesses is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for technical and non-financial stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable presenting to executives, board members, and cross-functional teams (and skilled at managing upward with clarity and confidence).
- High energy, strong attention to detail, and a genuine desire to operate at the center of a fast-moving, AI-driven transformation.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Ramp, and advanced Excel; familiarity with additional financial management and agile reporting tools is a plus.
- Advanced English proficiency (written and spoken) is required, given the US-facing nature of the role and regular communication with C-level stakeholders.
- Based in Peru or Colombia (required).
