Director of Design

We’re seeking a Design Director to lead the creation of innovative digital products that will impact millions of customers and drive the success of our digital strategy. IMPORTANT NOTE: This role is for US Citizens or Green Card Holders only. This role is Hybrid, In-office 3 days per week. About This Role In this role, you’ll lead and mentor cross-functional teams to deliver user-centered, high-quality designs. We’re looking for a dynamic leader with strong expertise in design, communication, and people management. You will collaborate closely with engineering, UX research, content design, and other teams to define the strategy, operations, and communication that guide the development of user-centric products. Your work will span across product strategy, interaction design, visual design, and execution to ensure our products are valuable, intuitive, and of the highest quality. As a Director of Design, you will drive the development of brand-specific consumer experiences, shaping cohesive user journeys across an entire product family. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Product, Engineering, and Business—to guide the design team in crafting rapid visual concepts and high-fidelity designs. You will foster a culture of iteration and innovation, ensuring that customer-centered solutions remain at the core of all design decisions. By aligning the team around a shared vision, you’ll empower designers to take ownership of their work and feel a strong sense of pride in their contributions. As a design leader, you’ll set and uphold high standards of excellence for user-centered design. You’ll advocate for the design system as a key tool for consistency and scalability, working closely with teams responsible for its evolution to ensure seamless and cohesive user experiences. Your deep expertise in the end-to-end product development process will enable you to work cross-functionally with Product, Design, Engineering, UX Research, and Writing teams to implement best-in-class workflows and methodologies. You’ll cultivate an inclusive and connected team environment by organizing team celebrations, craft showcases, and all-hands meetings, ensuring that diverse voices are heard and creativity flourishes.   • Deep customer obsession and a customer-driven mindset inform a strong point of view on product strategy, with the ability to advocate for it among peers.
  • Experience as a design activator, delivering a platform vision and strategy that balances revolutionary framework projects with iterative updates to realize a broader vision.
  • Success in elevating design acumen through strategic design sprints, prototyping, and crafting highly curated end-to-end experiences, while also being comfortable rolling up your sleeves to demonstrate and teach extraordinary design execution.
  • Proven ability to partner with various teams, inspiring confidence in delivering compelling user experiences that are cohesive, inclusive, and well-informed on time.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of product designers and cross-functional teams, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to foster their growth and development.
  • A strong eye for craft, ensuring that designs are polished, impactful, and user-centered, with storytelling skills that connect design work to broader product strategy and business goals.
  • Expertise in driving the end-to-end design process, from concept ideation and wireframing to high-fidelity prototyping and user testing, ensuring seamless and intuitive user experiences across all platforms.
  • Ability to advocate for the needs and preferences of a diverse user base, leveraging data-driven insights to inform design decisions.
  • Highly skilled in effectively communicating design concepts, rationale, and trade-offs to stakeholders at all levels, fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.

  • 10+ years of experience in Product Design or related fields.
  • 6+ years of leadership experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership, including hiring and developing senior managers and individual contributors.
  • 10+ years of experience working collaboratively with product, engineering, design, content, and user research teams.
  • Deep experience shipping products across platforms and geographies as a designer and coaching others through it.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Interaction Design, Fine Arts, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Appreciation for all forms of design and how they collaborate—interaction, visual, content, motion, and research.
  • Expert proficiency with Figma, Miro, Usertesting.com, Dovetail, and other relevant domain software consistent with industry standards.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of projects demonstrating your design process, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong team management and team-building skills. Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring leads and individual contributors, as well as developing talent and upgrading craft skills.
  • Strong systems thinker with experience defining patterns, style guides, performing user testing, and building low- and high-fidelity prototypes.
  • Solid understanding of software development and how to collaborate with developers.
  • Self-starter with exceptional time management and organizational skills, with laser-sharp attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Superior communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders across the organization.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous responsibility for resource planning and staffing projects and groups based on available skills to deliver excellent design solutions on time.
  • Possess a broad and comprehensive understanding of different systems, theories, and practices of design leadership.
  • Identified and set platform strategies, envisioned complex user interactions, and inspired teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
  • Can communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • Preferred experience working in the financial services industry, especially consumer lending.
