At MERGE, we strive to create a superior work experience where talented and ambitious people grow. An experience that encourages people to think higher and feel deeper. An experience where people engage their minds and hearts to do the best work of their careers.

As our Director, Digital Engineering, you will…

Take full ownership of a technical delivery team, responsible for the end-to-end success of project delivery and the leadership of your engineering team.

You will execute projects, align technical teams with business goals, and proactively mitigate delivery risks before they impact the client. Leveraging this delivery expertise, you will partner with Project Managers, Client Services, and Solution Consultants to craft realistic SOWs, staff plans, and technology roadmaps.

Note: While this role requires discipline-level functional and technical expertise to challenge estimates and manage scope, it is not a hands-on development role.

Be Accountable and Responsible

  • Delivery Execution & Risk Management
    • Portfolio Ownership: Take ownership of project execution from kickoff to launch for a specific client portfolio, acting as the primary escalation point for technical blockers and resolving major escalations.
    • Risk & Quality: Proactively identify and mitigate risks, ensuring projects meet enterprise-grade standards for security, performance, and accessibility.
    • Team Alignment: Align cross-functional teams (Developers, Architects, BA, QA, and PMs) to ensure everyone is moving in lockstep toward delivery goals.
    • Scope Management: Manage project scope rigorously, identifying creep early and negotiating trade-offs between features, timelines, and budget with stakeholders.
  • Engagement Architecture & Strategy
    • SOWs & Planning: Collaborate with Solution Consultants and Architects to lead the technical definition phase, directly generating SOWs, critical assumptions, and comprehensive staff plans that align with budget constraints.
    • Roadmapping: Partner with Strategy and Client Services to create and execute strategic 1-to-3-year technology roadmaps for clients.
    • Financial Strategy: Support budget and investment conversations, helping clients understand the ROI of technical initiatives and identifying opportunities for organic account growth.
  • Client Leadership & Talent Development
    • Client Partnership: Act as the primary technical point of contact, translating complex technical challenges into clear business language to build trust and transparency.
    • Mentorship: Coach and mentor supervised staff to promote a collaborative learning environment, providing constructive feedback, career guidance, and resolving personnel escalations.
    • Operational Excellence: Advise leadership on talent strategies and drive the adoption of engineering best practices to increase team efficiency and delivery quality.

These are the qualifications we are looking for

  • 10+ years of professional experience delivering enterprise-grade web/CMS solutions, with a strong background in consulting or agency environments.
  • 5+ years of team leadership experience managing technical resources and project portfolios, including the creation of SOWs, management of staff plans, and oversight of delivery strategy.
  • Strategic DXP Knowledge: Deep understanding of the DXP/CMS landscape (Sitecore, AEM, Drupal, Optimizely) with enough technical background to challenge estimates and understand architectural decisions.
  • Client & Business Acumen: Proven ability to lead client conversations to desirable outcomes, effectively negotiating trade-offs, managing expectations, and supporting budget/investment discussions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.

Bonus points for...

  • Experience transitioning teams from monolithic CMS architectures to Headless/Composable stacks.
  • Experience assisting New Business teams in pitch presentations and RFP responses.
  • Familiarity with financial metrics regarding utilization, project margin, and burn rates.
