Director, Computational Biology - Neuroscience

The Impact You’ll Make

In this role, you will be at the forefront of reimagining neuroscience drug discovery using Recursion’s unique capacity to perform >1 million experiments per week. You will have the freedom and support to lead multiple computational and/or therapeutics projects from inception to preclinical development, with the ultimate goal of bringing life-changing therapeutics to patients living with neurological or neurodegenerative disease. 

OBJECTIVES:

• Accelerate Recursion’s neuroscience drug discovery efforts through your skills in experimental design and your ability to analyze, integrate, and interpret large biological datasets.
• Enable Recurion’s efforts to build, assess, and mine first-in-class high-content imaging and transcriptomic maps in neural cell types.
• Design novel methods for interrogating internal and public domain datasets to generate and evaluate hypotheses for drug discovery, biomarker development, and mechanism of action.
• Work cross-functionally with Recursion’s data science and drug development teams to further advance Recursion’s ability to translate large-scale phenomics data into therapeutic programs.
• Work collaboratively with the partner to identify needs to advance those programs and develop strategies to address those needs internally.

KEY CAPABILITIES:

• Use established bioinformatic analysis pipelines and propose innovative solutions to integrate and interpret -omics data types including genomics, transcriptomics, single cell sequencing, proteomics, and high-content imaging using appropriate computational and statistical methods.
• Interpret high dimensional data, and present data effectively to cross-functional internal and partnership teams.
• Iterate quickly to move from ideation to validation on multiple projects at an accelerated pace.

• Build and lead an inclusive and collaborative team of computational biologists to drive joint programs in Recursion’s neuroscience partnership with Genentech/Roche.

We are building diverse and collaborative drug discovery teams that are data-driven from the ground up. Close collaboration between computational biologists across therapeutic areas and with data scientists on the core build teams provides a strong network of feedback and support in setting timelines, piloting, refining ideas, automating repetitive workflows, productionalizing and more. Our group is a bold, agile, interdisciplinary collective of biological, computational, drug discovery, and machine learning scientists deeply focused on the singular goal of bringing new therapeutics to patients at an accelerated pace. You will collaborate extensively with data scientists, chemists, engineers, and biologists throughout the organization to advance milestones and provide insights to advance Recursion’s capabilities. Essential attributes to this role include a bold, execution-first attitude and passion for deploying rigorous science to bring life-changing therapies to patients. 

The Experience You’ll Need

• PhD in a relevant field (bioinformatics, statistics, neuroscience, cell biology, etc.) and 6+ years of industry experience.
• Depth in translational neuroscience, cell biology, neuroimmunology, and/or neurodegeneration. 
• Demonstrated experience mining and integrating large multimodal data sets (including imaging, proteomics, transcriptomics, GWAS, genomics, etc.) to identify targets and/or pathways relevant to drug discovery. 
• Demonstrated experience efficiently advancing drug-discovery projects from program nomination through hit-to-lead. Experience beyond hit-to-lead is a plus.
• Experience leading and mentoring high performing teams
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to multiple projects and navigate collaborative prioritization among them.
