Who we are looking for:

Slate is looking for a dynamic, organized, experienced Commercial Accounting Director/Head of Commercial Accounting to join our growing team.

What you get to do:

As the Commercial Accounting Director at Slate, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial landscape of the company. You will lead the accounting functions related to our revenue streams, including vehicle sales, spare parts, and accessories, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. You will also be responsible for designing and implementing robust systems and processes that enhance our accounting controls, allowing us to maintain the highest standards for completeness and accuracy in our financial operations.   • Oversee all accounting functions related to revenue recognition for vehicle sales, spare parts, and accessories, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 standards.
  • Manage the sales booking package process for each vehicle sale, ensuring accuracy and completeness in revenue reporting.
  • Active involvement in the design of IT systems and control to ensure that API integrations are capturing complete and accurate data for merchandise sales, spare parts, accessories and warranty.
  • Design and implement internal controls and accounting policies to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of revenue recognition.
  • Develop and oversee process for recording customer deposits and deferred revenue.
  • Manage the accounting for all contra revenue accounts, including discounts, returns and warranties.
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of revenue recognition policies and practices.
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting processes that provide insights into revenue trends and performance, including product line profitability analysis.
  • Stay current with industry regulations and accounting standards, providing recommendations for compliance and best practices.

What you bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of overall experience with 5-8 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in commercial accounting, with a strong understanding of revenue recognition principles, particularly ASC 606.
  • Experienced in developing, executing, and managing commercial accounting for a manufacturing company.
  • Proficient in accounting software and tools, with advanced Excel skills. NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • The ability to see around corners and anticipate needs two steps ahead of the rest of the organization.
  • Knowledge of automotive industry standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and develop finance team members.
  • You are a proactive accountant who enjoys building processes from the ground up. You thrive in fast-paced environments and are comfortable working cross-functionally with IT, operations, and finance. You don’t just manage numbers—you help translate them into insights that drive business decisions.
