Director, Business Development

Quick take: Axios is a growth-stage media company dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning content in an audience-first format. We are looking for an experienced and collaborative sales professional to help lead new business growth for Axios Pro, our new paid subscription product!

Why it matters: The Director will be responsible for leading the sales process for a territory of potential corporate clients, with a focus on our Pro Policy products.

Go deeper: Ideal candidates will be highly organized, relationship-focused, and entrepreneurial. Responsibilities will include:

• Become a consultative expert in their assigned territory and create a strategic account growth plan
• Partner with and develop a Business Development Associate to identify prospective partners and develop outbound sales tactics to engage them
• Prepare for and conduct sales meetings (virtual and in-person) with relevant industry targets, ensuring alignment of value, budget, and decision making process
• Independently manage the evaluation process for new business opportunities, including pricing negotiation and contract execution
• Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new contacts by participating in industry events, Axios Pro events and in-person meetings
• Collaborate with Revenue and Editorial team leadership to influence our go to market strategy and product roadmap based on marketplace feedback
• Log all account notes and maintain an accurate view of open pipeline

The details: Ideal candidates will embody a collaborative spirit, revenue mindset, and passion for the Axios mission. This position requires the following:

• Demonstrated experience and success with new business sales
• Experience selling B2B products to potential clients in the policy space
• Customer-centric mindset with strong commercial instincts
• High proficiency in relationship building and relationship management
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Ability to be adaptable and creative as the Axios Pro product and team grows

Starting base salary for this role is in the range of $105,000 - $120,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits.
