About the Role
As the Director, AWS Cloud & Healthcare Solutions, you will spearhead the strategic direction, architecture, and execution of cloud-native initiatives, leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) to drive innovation and transformation within the healthcare domain. This pivotal leadership role ensures that all cloud solutions not only meet stringent industry regulations such as HIPAA and HITECH but also deliver scalable performance and align seamlessly with core business objectives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for shaping the future of our cloud infrastructure, ensuring it supports our mission to provide cutting-edge healthcare solutions.
Key Responsibilities
-
Strategic Leadership and Vision: Define and champion the long-term cloud strategy and technical roadmap for all healthcare-focused applications and data platforms on AWS. Collaborate closely with executive leadership, clinical operations, and IT teams to translate business needs into technical cloud solutions that deliver measurable value. Drive the adoption of emerging AWS technologies (e.g., Generative AI via SageMaker, Serverless computing, specialized services like AWS HealthLake) to modernize legacy systems.
-
AWS Architecture and Technical Governance: Provide architectural governance over solution designs, ensuring they are secure, cost-optimized, high-performing, and resilient, adhering to AWS Well-Architected Framework principles. Act as the final authority ensuring all data storage, processing, and transmission within AWS environments are strictly compliant with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, SOC 2). This includes oversight of VPC networking, IAM policies, encryption standards, and logging/auditing using services like CloudTrail and CloudWatch. Implement and manage FinOps practices to monitor, forecast, and optimize cloud spending (e.g., Reserved Instances, Compute Savings Plans) across the entire AWS footprint.
-
Team Management and Delivery: Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of Cloud Architects, DevOps Engineers, and Data Engineers. Ensure the consistent, on-time delivery of AWS projects, utilizing Agile and DevOps methodologies (CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild/CodeDeploy). Manage relationships with AWS account teams and third-party vendors to maximize service utilization and support.
-
Healthcare Domain Focus: Understand the architecture and integration requirements for clinical data systems (EMR/EHR, Lab Information Systems, Patient Portals). Oversee solutions for complex healthcare data formats, standards, and exchange protocols (HL7, FHIR). Direct the implementation of data lakes (AWS S3) and analytics solutions (AWS Redshift, Glue, Athena) to enable predictive modeling, population health management, and operational reporting.
- Ensure all cloud-based solutions adhere to the highest standards of data security and privacy, particularly concerning patient health information (PHI).
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in cloud technology and healthcare regulations, proactively identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions with existing systems and workflows.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud infrastructure, architecture, and processes.
