Director, Software Engineering

We’re looking for a software engineering leader to own and evolve the core platforms that power the Point business unit at Plusgrade. This role will drive the next chapter of our platform strategy, ensuring our systems are scalable, reliable, and easy to build on for internal teams and external partners.

Reporting to the VP, Software Development for the Point business unit, the Director will be responsible for:

 

What you’ll do

  • Lead and develop multiple software development teams responsible for our core platforms, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.

  • Own the platform strategy and roadmap in partnership with Product and Architecture, balancing near‑term delivery with modernization, scalability, reliability, and security.

  • Ensure strong execution and operational excellence through clear goals, predictable delivery, robust engineering practices, and meaningful quality/operational metrics.

  • Drive effective collaboration with Product Management, Partner Success, Operations, Security, and other engineering groups, representing the platform organization in key forums.

  • Initiate and lead change across the platform space—modernization, migrations, performance and efficiency improvements, and better ways of working for the teams.

  • Constantly improve the way we work, AI-based and otherwise.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience leading multiple software development teams (including managers, leads, and senior ICs) in a product or platform organization.

  • Strong technical background in building and scaling distributed, service-oriented systems (ideally high-throughput, transaction-heavy platforms).

  • Exceptional communication skills—able to simplify complex topics, influence at multiple levels, and provide candid, constructive feedback.

  • Excellent ability to collaborate with Product and business stakeholders, translating business strategy into coherent technical and organizational plans.

  • A people-first leadership style: you develop talent, build inclusive teams, and create an environment where engineers can do their best work.

Nice to have

  • Experience in payments, financial services, loyalty, or other highly regulated / high-integrity domains.

  • Hands-on background with cloud-native architectures, observability, and SRE/DevOps practices.

  • Prior exposure to partner integrations and platforms that serve both internal and external consumers.
