Compensation:

New hires start between $84 466 and $112 621 based on experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, internal equity, and market factors. While the full pay range is listed for this position for pay transparency, individual compensation is determined by various factors and may vary within the posted range.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Digital Strategist leads Pioneer’s digital strategy and execution, strengthening brand awareness, engagement and alignment across programs, regions and business lines. This role is responsible for translating Pioneer’s mission and Theory of Change into compelling digital storytelling that elevates the organization’s profile as a leader in diversion, reentry, social enterprise and advocacy. The Digital Strategist drives consistent, high-quality content across all digital channels, establishes clear performance metrics and reporting, and ensures Pioneer’s digital presence contributes to organizational growth and impact.

 

PRIMARY/ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive digital strategy that increases brand awareness and engagement across digital channels, including reach, impressions, follower growth, engagement, etc.
  • Creates and manages consistent, high-quality digital content that strengthens Pioneer’s reputation and advances storytelling across diversion, reentry, social enterprise and advocacy.
  • Ensures alignment of messaging and visual identity across programs, regions and business lines, in collaboration with marketing, communications and program teams.
  • Produces compelling digital assets using hands-on technical skills, including graphic design and light video production, while coordinating with external vendors for larger or specialized projects.
  • Conceives, film and edit short, social-media–style videos using phone cameras or pro-sumer equipment to tell compelling stories about clients, programs and organizational impact, prioritizing authenticity and clarity over high-end production.
  • Manages digital channels, including website, social media and email platforms, ensuring content is timely, accessible and mission-aligned.
  • Establishes and maintain clear marketing performance metrics, dashboards and reporting structures to demonstrate return on investment and contribution to organizational growth.
  • Analyzes digital performance data and audience insights to inform strategy, refine content and improve engagement outcomes.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with advocacy, development, programs and social enterprise teams to support campaigns, initiatives and organizational priorities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. 
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in digital marketing, communications and/or content strategy, preferably within a mission-driven, nonprofit or social impact organization.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing digital strategies that increase brand awareness and engagement across multiple channels.
  • Strong hands-on technical skills in content creation, including graphic design and basic video production.
  • Proficiency with core digital tools and platforms, including:
    – Social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Sprout or similar)
    – Content management systems (e.g., WordPress or similar)
    – Email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact or similar)
    – Design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma or similar)

         Video editing software (e.g., CapCut, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Rush, iMovie or similar)

  • Experience tracking, analyzing and reporting on digital performance metrics, including reach, impressions, engagement and follower growth.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex programmatic work into clear, compelling digital storytelling.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and collaborate effectively across teams.

PREFERRED/DESIRABLE

  • Experience supporting advocacy, public policy or justice-related initiatives through digital communications.
  • Familiarity with video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or similar).
  • Experience working with brand guidelines and ensuring consistency across multiple programs or regions.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Experience working with external vendors or creative partners on larger digital or multimedia projects.
  • Lived or professional experience connected to reentry, diversion or justice-impacted communities.
