DevSecOps Engineer – Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Location: Colorado Springs, CO (On‑Site, Full Time)
Clearance Required: Secret
DoD 8570 Requirement: IAT Level II
Salary Range: $130,000–$150,000

 

Job Summary

The DevSecOps Engineer SME plays a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining modern development tools and infrastructure. This position focuses on continuous integration, delivery, and deployment (CI/CD), container orchestration, and security. The SME will build and test end‑to‑end CI/CD pipelines, ensuring systems remain secure and resilient against threats.

This role provides subject matter expertise across software engineering, DevOps, platform and infrastructure management, automated testing, architecture, security engineering, and network engineering. The SME may support infrastructure, platform, and application systems in both on‑premises and air‑gapped environments, addressing complex challenges related to systems integration, compatibility, and secure operations.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Automate and deploy DevSecOps systems
  • Create and update Terraform scripts to support DevSecOps environments
  • Use GitOps tools (e.g., ArgoCD) to create, manage, and deploy Helm charts to Kubernetes clusters
  • Work with Platform One services, including Party Bus and Big Bang
  • Troubleshoot Kubernetes technologies (pods, services, custom resources)
  • Oversee, automate, and streamline container and security operations in virtualized environments
  • Integrate security practices throughout the software lifecycle to minimize vulnerabilities
  • Automate processes using Terraform, Ansible, Python, Chef, and PowerShell
  • Work with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker/Podman, Kubernetes/OpenShift)
  • Detect and address security threats and vulnerabilities in enterprise‑level environments

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience applying Agile methodologies to the system development life cycle
  • Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code / Configuration‑as‑Code and IaC automation
  • Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift Container Platform
  • DoD 8570 certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Experience managing, testing, securing, and releasing software using automated tools
  • Experience building automated CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience supporting infrastructure, platform, and application systems on cloud‑hosted Kubernetes platforms
  • Proficiency with:
    • Terraform
    • Ansible
    • GitLab CI/CD & GitLab Runners
    • GitOps / ArgoCD
    • Helm
    • Kubectl
  • Virtualization experience
  • Experience automating DevOps processes (Ansible, Python, Chef, PowerShell)
  • Experience detecting vulnerabilities in source code and internal applications

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree with 9+ years of experience
    OR
  • Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience

 

Physical Demands

  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Operate a computer, keyboard, and office equipment
  • Communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically
  • Occasionally move about the office to access files, equipment, and meeting spaces
  • Lift/move up to 15 pounds as needed
  • Maintain vision requirements including close vision and focus adjustment
