Lead Site Reliability Engineer

AI overview

Lead the reliability and delivery of data and cloud platforms in a fast-scaling startup, focusing on build engineering and release automation while mentoring engineers.

Lead Site Reliability Engineer (Data & Cloud Platforms, Build Engineering)

We’re hiring a Lead Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) in India to own the reliability and delivery of our data and cloud platforms, with a strong focus on build engineering and release automation.

This role works closely with Engineering and QA teams in India and partners with US-based SRE and Product Management. You’ll be responsible for making sure systems are easy to build, safe to release, and reliable to run in a fast-scaling, late-stage startup.

This is a hands-on IC lead role with real ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Own reliability, scalability, and operations for cloud and data platforms, including PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS (SQL Server), Kafka, Druid, and Apache Iceberg, primarily on AWS.
  • Lead build engineering and CI/CD pipelines—improving build speed, determinism, and release safety.
  • Standardize build, test, and release workflows across services and teams.
  • Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform on AWS.
  • Ensure safe production releases through automated testing, validation, and rollback mechanisms.
  • Build and improve observability, alerting, and SLOs tied to customer impact.
  • Lead production incident response, RCA, and postmortems.
  • Partner with Engineering and QA to embed reliability into the SDLC.
  • Collaborate with US-based SRE and Product across time zones.
  • Mentor engineers and set operational standards.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in SRE, Build Engineering, or DevOps roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, and Kafka.
  • Deep experience building and operating CI/CD and build systems.
  • Strong Terraform + AWS experience.
  • Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency in Python and strong Bash scripting.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
  • Strong ownership mindset and clear communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Druid or Iceberg.
  • GitOps-style or release engineering experience.
  • Late-stage startup or high-growth environment experience.

Why Join

  • Own how software gets built and released, not just how it runs.
  • High-impact role with real production ownership.
  • Direct collaboration with senior engineering and product leaders.
  • Opportunity to shape reliability and delivery as the company scales.
