DevOps Engineer (Hybrid Backend)

Zürich , Switzerland

AI overview

Contribute to cloud infrastructure and backend code while automating pipelines, improving system performance, and ensuring compliance in a collaborative environment.

We are looking for a hands-on DevOps Engineer who loves infrastructure but isn't afraid to dive into application code. In this role, you will own our cloud infrastructure, automate our pipelines, and ensure our systems are secure and cost-efficient.

Unlike traditional DevOps roles, you will also be an active contributor to our backend codebase. You will work closely with the development team to build new features, maintain microservices, and ensure our Node.js and Python services are scalable and performant.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain, migrate, and scale our AWS infrastructure using Terraform and best practices for EC2, ECS, and data storage.
  • Maintain and optimize our build/deploy pipelines using GoCD and GitHub Actions to ensure seamless delivery of our polyglot services (Node, Python, Rust, C++).
  • Manage Docker images and orchestration on ECS to ensure consistent environments from dev to production.
  • Implement and monitor metrics, logs, and alerts using Datadog. Proactively analyze traffic patterns to prevent issues before they impact users.
  • Take ownership of infrastructure compliance standards, specifically maintaining requirements for SOC2.
  • Analyze usage patterns and implement strategies to reduce AWS infrastructure costs without sacrificing performance.
  • Assist the development team by writing and maintaining backend features in Node.js (TypeScript) and Python.
  • Clean up, upgrade, and refactor existing services to reduce technical debt.
  • Maintain and improve integrations with 3rd party services.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in a DevOps or SRE role.
  • Strong proficiency with AWS core services (EC2, ECS, ECR, RDS, IAM).
  • Production experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Solid experience with Docker and container orchestration.
  • Coding Proficiency: You must be comfortable reading and writing production code in Node.js/TypeScript or Python.
  • Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines is a must (GoCD and GitHub Actions preferred).
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Datadog, New Relic, or Prometheus).
  • Experience navigating a polyglot environment (C++ or Rust build processes) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Database administration (Postgres) using ORMs (Prisma) is a plus.
  • Experience handling infrastructure SOC2 compliance requirements is a plus.
