About The Role

Telegraph Travel is one of the UK’s leading editorial resources for travel, delivering advice, inspiration and expertise to a highly engaged audience.

The role of destinations editor is to commission and edit travel content across all platforms, including the Telegraph’s app, telegraph.co.uk and in print. The content managed and commissioned by this role will be long-term (evergreen) features and guides, including destination, ski and cruise content.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will lead a team of highly motivated editors focused on producing the best and most innovative travel content in the world.
  • You will generate creative story ideas that appeal to the Telegraph’s digital audience with a primary focus on long-term content, including features, guides, advice and inspiration.
  • You will attract and develop freelance writing talent, briefing contributors in order to maximise reader engagement.
  • You will contribute to print and digital content plans.
  • You will commission and edit content across a variety of formats with a high degree of flair and accuracy.
  • You will attend weekly update meetings to present feature ideas in a collaborative way that allows for further input and development.
  • You will attend planning meetings in the absence of the head of travel / deputy head of travel and represent travel internally and externally when required.
  • You will engage with digital publishing platforms and SEO best practices to drive audience engagement.
  • You will work closely with the picture desk and visual storytelling to create the most eye-catching, engaging and user-friendly visual content

Key Skills

  • You must have previous expertise in a commissioning role in lifestyle editorial and demonstrate a keen instinct for a good story and how to tell it.
  • You must be able to demonstrate team leadership skills.
  • You must be able to demonstrate a sound grasp of SEO/analytics.
  • You should be able to use key publishing tools, including CMS.
  • You should have a wide variety of writer contacts.
  • You should have a good range of PR contacts in the travel industry and beyond.
  • You should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of what content engages our readers and encourages them to explore the Telegraph’s app, telegraph.co.uk and print.
  • You should be able to prioritise tasks, work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
