OpenAI didn’t begin as a traditional company. It began as an idea: that artificial intelligence could be developed in a way that benefits everyone. As a creative team, our role is to help make sure the work behind that idea is understood, as it leaves the lab and meets the world.
This company works at the frontier of intelligence. Like any frontier, it’s unfinished, constantly shifting, and still being explored. Our job is to stay close to that uncertainty and help shape how this story gets told,in a way that feels grounded and human. We do this through campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and work that doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories yet. This team is for people who want to help shape something from the beginning.
As a Design Lead on the Brand Experiences Team, you’ll help define and bring to life some of OpenAI’s most visible and culturally impactful brand moments. This role sits at the intersection of brand, campaigns, and experiential - shaping how the world encounters OpenAI through spatial and experiential initiatives, brand campaigns, and merch.
You’ll be a highly skilled, conceptually driven designer who can run projects with autonomy, partner confidently with cross-functional stakeholders, and move fluidly between big-picture vision and meticulous execution. This is a hands-on role for a senior creative who thrives in ambiguity, elevates craft, and helps push the Brand Experiences Team’s creative ambition forward.
In this role you will:
Lead design for high-profile brand experiences and campaigns including OOH, merch, interactive, traditional and digital media.
Own projects end-to-end - from early concept and creative direction through final execution and production.
Translate complex AI concepts into clear, emotionally resonant visual systems and storytelling moments across physical and digital environments.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners across Marketing, Research, Comms, Product, Events, and Production to shape cohesive brand experiences.
Contribute to the development and evolution of OpenAI’s brand system, ensuring consistency while also pushing creative boundaries.
Balance strategic thinking with detailed execution - from mood boarding and concept creation, to pixel-perfect final files.
Provide creative leadership within projects, offering guidance, feedback, and direction to designers and partners when needed.
Maintain exceptionally high standards of craft, clarity, and attention to detail across all deliverables.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have 6+ years of experience in brand, experiential, campaign, or multidisciplinary design, ideally in-house or at a top creative studio.
Have a proven ability to independently lead and run complex design projects with multiple stakeholders.
Have strong conceptual thinking paired with refined visual craft and technical execution.
Have experience working across physical and digital outputs (campaigns, environmental, merchandise, toolkits, systems).
Have a portfolio demonstrating sophisticated taste, strong storytelling, and brand-building expertise.
Are comfortable navigating ambiguity and evolving creative direction in a fast-moving environment.
Have a deep attention to detail and pride in high-quality execution.
Have strong communication and collaboration skills, with confidence presenting and defending creative work.
