The Design Engineer supports the full product design cycle for office furniture—from concept to production. This role collaborates with design, marketing, sales, and engineering teams to develop new products, customize solutions, and refine existing designs in alignment with industry, safety, and organizational standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine innovative product designs using knowledge of construction and production methods
- Generate ideas to improve design and production processes through research and creative thinking
- Analyze and modify existing products to support continuous improvement, efficiency, and performance
- Collaborate with Design and Engineering teams throughout the design cycle
- Work cross-functionally to resolve issues related to function, manufacturability, testing, installation, and technical application
- Develop 3D models of new or revised products using SolidWorks
- Fabricate prototypes and pre-production units for evaluation, testing, and training
- Interpret relevant testing standards and conduct preliminary testing to ensure compliance (e.g., BIFMA)
- Prepare accurate technical documentation, including SolidWorks drawings, assembly manuals, and specification sheets
- Liaise with third-party suppliers to source and cost new parts, components, and fabrication solutions
- Contribute to the development of new processes and tools that support product development and improve industry competitiveness
- Stay current with industry trends, testing standards, materials, technologies, and sustainable design practices
- Create SolidWorks models and drawings for PDM Vault implementation
Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Design
- 5+ years of experience in product design, design engineering, or a manufacturing environment
- Strong project and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills
- Proficiency in 3D modelling and detailed design (SolidWorks preferred; Inventor, ProEngineer also accepted)
- Adobe Suite experience (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) is considered an asset
- KeyShot rendering experience is an asset
- Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary team environments
