Department Manager - IP Planning and Contract Management

AI overview

Lead the IP commercialization strategy for a major retail player while managing cross-functional teams and ensuring effective governance of IP assets and performance metrics.

We’re looking for a strategic, business-oriented IP Planner to lead Makro’s end-to-end IP commercialization — from portfolio strategy and annual planning to product/category mapping, promotion integration, and cross-functional governance. This role suits someone who is commercially sharp, highly organized, and proactive, with strong capability to translate IP assets into real business value across FF, DGF, and Non-Food categories.

You will serve as the central IP business owner, ensuring alignment across Commercial, Trade, Marketing, Tech, Legal, and external IP licensors.

  • Lead annual IP portfolio planning, evaluating potential IPs (Universal, Disney, Chef IP, etc.) and mapping them to categories, seasons, and promotional opportunities.
  • Develop IP commercialization strategies across campaigns, OB products, promotions, hampers, monthly mechanics, and regional opportunities.
  • Work with Commercial Teams to prioritize key items, plan volumes, estimate sales impact, and ensure category-fit and profitability.
  • Plan and manage IP-driven product or SKU concepts, aligning with suppliers, OB teams, and relevant stakeholders for execution.
  • Guide Marketing on IP usage direction (theme, tone, application boundary) while keeping business objectives and licensors’ guidelines aligned.
  • Oversee IP performance KPIs, tracking uplift, traffic contribution, sell-through rate, customer acquisition, and category-level outcomes.
  • Ensure strong governance by defining IP approval workflow, checklist, and usage control across teams.
  • Liaise with licensors for strategy alignment, renewals, new opportunities, and multi-brand activations.
  • Lead crisis or compliance escalation, working closely with Legal and the Contract Manager to resolve rights or usage issues.
  • Continuously identify new IP business models, seasonal opportunities, and monetization pathways to maximize IP ROI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or related field.
  • 6–10 years of experience in Licensing, Category Management, Retail Marketing, or Brand Partnerships.
  • Strong commercial and analytical mindset with business planning experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in product/category development or campaign planning.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking with ability to translate IP assets into business results.
  • High proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and presentation tools.
  • Fluent English for communication with licensors and cross-team coordination.
