Delivery Product Manager

AI overview

As a Delivery Product Manager, you will deliver high-stakes modernization projects while balancing long-term strategy with the realities of delivery in complex environments.
Mechanical Orchard builds Imogen, a modernization platform for rewriting the most critical and complex business applications—the systems that quietly run the world as we know it—so they can continue operating reliably while adapting to new challenges and opportunities. These are business-critical systems where reliability, safety, and correctness are paramount. Delivery at Mechanical Orchard is where Imogen meets reality. Delivery teams work directly with customers and system integration partners in real production environments to modernize mainframe systems using Imogen. This work delivers customer outcomes while also shaping how the platform evolves, ensuring Imogen is grounded in real-world constraints, risks, and opportunities. Our Delivery team operates in complex, ambiguous environments with high stakes. We balance long-term modernization outcomes with incremental, production-ready delivery; validate functional equivalence, performance, and operational readiness; and work closely with partners to enable durable handoff and long-term ownership. We value strong fundamentals, pragmatic use of AI, and close collaboration across roles and organizations. Our values are simple: Do the right thing. Do what works. Be kind. The Role Delivery teams use Imogen to deliver high-stakes modernization projects with customers and partners. As a Delivery Product Manager, you provide clarity and focus in deeply technical, ambiguous environments—balancing long-term strategy with the realities of delivery, risk, and learning. You work closely with Delivery Leads, engineers, Account Executives, client stakeholders, partners, and internal platform teams to ensure effort is focused on the highest-leverage outcomes. As Imogen adoption grows and our partner ecosystem matures, success in this role increasingly centers on maximizing value delivered through the Imogen platform, enabling effective partner-led execution, and ensuring Delivery effort is focused where it creates the most leverage. People in this role will have a high degree of autonomy and responsibility, with frequent client-facing communication and interaction with all levels of leadership.  What You’ll Do - As a Delivery Product Manager, you may be expected to:
  • Work with Imogen to modernize production legacy systems in collaboration with customers and partners
  • Own and manage backlogs for highly technical modernization efforts, including acceptance criteria and testing approaches
  • Balance long-term success with incremental progress through learning, risk mitigation, and iterative delivery
  • Provide clarity on tradeoffs between customer needs, team capacity, technical constraints, performance, and security
  • Facilitate effective decision-making across engineering, product, platform, and partner teams
  • Communicate clearly with internal leadership and client stakeholders on progress, risks, and milestones
  • Establish and maintain strong customer and partner relationships with alignment on priorities and outcomes
  • Shape delivery scope, sequencing, and success criteria to maximize long-term leverage through partner enablement and partner-led execution
  • Define and evolve Imogen usage patterns and delivery approaches that enable partners to deliver effectively with decreasing MO involvement over time
  • Serve as a bridge between Delivery and R&D by gathering requirements and driving priority alignment
  • Things to Consider Before Applying
  • This role is client-facing and partner-facing; communication, facilitation and collaboration are core parts of the work
  • This role includes regular domestic travel to client sites, up to approximately twice per month, to support delivery, alignment, and key milestones.
  • Much of the work involves legacy mainframe systems (e.g., COBOL, JCL)
  • PMs sometimes help manage on-call escalation and delivery coordination
  • Collaboration across time zones is part of the role, particularly with partners based in the US and India
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • The ideal candidate brings experience working in client-facing, delivery-oriented environments and is motivated by owning outcomes in complex, technical contexts. They are comfortable partnering closely with customers, SI partners, and delivery teams, navigating ambiguity, and balancing long-term strategy with the realities of execution, risk, and learning.
  • They have strong stakeholder management skills and can communicate clearly and confidently with audiences ranging from engineers to executive leadership. They are curious about deeply technical systems—even if they have not worked directly with mainframes before—and are eager to build fluency in both the Imogen platform and the legacy environments it modernizes.
  • They are enthusiastic about pragmatic, thoughtful use of AI and LLM-based tools, and interested in helping define effective patterns for their use in real-world delivery. They enjoy working closely with engineers and R&D teams, translating field learnings into product insights, and bringing clarity and focus to work that is often ambiguous and high stakes.
