Cottingham & Butler is seeking a Database & Cloud Platform Administrator to lead the design, administration, and optimization of our enterprise databases and cloud environments. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, driving modernization initiatives, ensuring strong security and governance practices, and supporting the scalability of our data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and optimize SQL Server, Azure SQL, and cloud‑native database platforms.
  • Lead complex database upgrades, migrations, performance tuning, capacity planning, and HA/DR initiatives.
  • Manage and optimize Azure and/or AWS environments including compute, storage, networking, identity, and security.
  • Build automation and Infrastructure as Code solutions using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, or CloudFormation.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, observability, and cloud cost optimization practices.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex database and cloud issues, providing troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Partner with IT leadership on technology roadmaps, governance standards, and cloud strategy.
  • Mentor team members and promote best practices across database and cloud operations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise database administration (SQL Server, Azure SQL, or cloud‑native databases).
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong background in performance tuning, HA/DR design, query optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Proficiency in scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python, Azure CLI, AWS CLI).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, CloudFormation).
  • Familiarity with cloud analytics platforms (Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, AWS Redshift/Glue/Lake Formation).
  • Experience implementing cloud security controls, governance frameworks, and compliance practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership, cross‑team collaboration, and project delivery experience.
  • Azure or AWS certifications and experience in regulated industries (insurance, financial services, healthcare) are a plus.
