This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Data Platform Reliability Engineer - Postgres in Netherlands.
In this role, you will own the reliability, performance, and operational excellence of a high-scale Postgres database platform. You will manage both platform-level and customer-facing databases, ensuring smooth upgrades, optimal performance, and high availability across cloud environments. Collaborating closely with platform engineers, SREs, and product teams, you will design and implement monitoring, automation, and optimization strategies that proactively prevent issues and streamline operations. This position offers a fully remote environment with opportunities to influence platform architecture, mentor team members, and shape best practices for database reliability. You will work in a fast-paced, globally distributed team where your expertise directly impacts the stability and scalability of critical data services.
Accountabilities:
Manage the lifecycle of Postgres databases, including platform RDS clusters and customer project databases.
Plan and execute low-downtime major version upgrades, database migrations, and schema changes.
Proactively monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize queries, connections, and resource utilization.
Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability systems to ensure platform reliability.
Develop and maintain run books, technical documentation, and operational guides.
Collaborate with platform engineers, product teams, and SREs to deliver scalable, reliable database services.
Participate in on-call rotations to support global production systems and handle incidents effectively.
Requirements:
Deep expertise in Postgres internals, architecture, replication, backups, and disaster recovery.
Proven experience managing Postgres at scale in cloud environments, preferably AWS RDS.
Strong knowledge of query optimization, indexing strategies, performance tuning, and configuration management.
Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, networking, and storage systems; familiarity with IaC tools is a plus.
Production operations mindset with experience in monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting live systems.
Excellent written communication for run books, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing.
Ability to work independently, take ownership, and automate repetitive tasks.
Nice to have: familiarity with TypeScript or Go, Postgres extensions, open-source contributions, or SRE/DevOps experience.
