The Data Migration Expert reports directly to the Technical Project Lead. This role is responsible for the accurate and efficient transfer of data between various eCommerce platforms, including Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce. The Data Migration Expert is expected to plan, execute, and validate data migrations, ensuring data accuracy and completeness while minimizing business disruption. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally with technical and project teams are essential to success.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Plan, do, and monitor how data is transferred between different online store systems (such as Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, etc.).
- Examine the data setup and identify any potential issues that may arise during migration.
- Create and use plans for migrating data, including cleaning and verifying the accuracy of the information after migration.
- Utilize tools and methods to extract data, modify it as necessary, and integrate it into the new system efficiently and accurately.
- Build scripts to automate the migration process.
- Ensure the data remains complete and accurate during the migration.
- Identify and resolve any issues that arise when transferring information efficiently and accurately.
- Collaborate with the website building team and project leaders to ensure the project migration proceeds smoothly.

Create and maintain documentation for migration processes and procedures
- Describe the process of how information moves, including the steps, timelines, and results.
- Continue learning about the latest methods for transferring information and online store systems.
- Help us improve our company's methods for sharing information.
- Perform data mapping analysis between the source and target systems
- Develop and execute data validation test cases
- Provide estimates for migration timelines and resource requirements
- Handle post-migration audits and reconciliation
Critical Skills
- A good understanding of how e-commerce sites' information is organized is essential.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets and CSV files
- Good programming skills are required, as we build scripts written in Python/JavaScript to automate processes, manipulate data, and facilitate integrations.
- Familiarity with tools and steps for extracting, modifying, and inserting information.
- Great at looking at problems and finding solutions, and you pay close attention to details.
- Able to work on your own and with others.
- Good at organizing your work and managing your time.
- Good at talking to people and writing things down clearly.
- Fast learner.
Preferred
- Experience using computer languages (like Python, JS, PHP, etc) to work with and automate information.
- Knowledge of simple MySQL queries to pull data from the database
- Familiarity with data security and compliance (GDPR, PCI, HIPAA if relevant) → important when migrating sensitive customer data.
- Strong troubleshooting/debugging mindset, especially for unexpected migration errors.
- Ability to work with large datasets efficiently without performance issues.
- Stakeholder communication skills → explaining migration timelines, risks, and tradeoffs to non-technical clients or PMs.

Experience with eCommerce platform APIs specifically (Shopify Admin API, Magento REST/SOAP, BigCommerce API).
