The Data Governance Analyst plays a key operational role in the implementation of Data Governance across Viamericas under the DAMA-DMBOK framework. This position is responsible for executing the detailed activities required to document data domains, define metadata, capture business rules, measure data quality, and support the functional deployment of the enterprise data catalog.
Working under the direction of the Data Governance Specialist, this role gathers input from business, development, and operations teams, ensuring that governance proposals are well-documented, accurate, and ready for review and approval by the Data Governance Committee. The analyst supports the organizational shift toward a data-driven culture by enabling high-quality, well-managed, and AI-ready data assets that align with Viamericas’ Data & A.I. strategy.
Duties and responsibilities
Operational Execution of Data Governance Framework
Document detailed data domain structures, including boundaries, concepts, attributes, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
Capture and record business definitions, data lineage, and transformation logic for governed data assets.
Identify, document, and maintain metadata (business, technical, and operational).
Support the definition and implementation of data quality rules, thresholds, and measurement methodologies.
Execute periodic data quality assessments, prepare reports, and document findings for review by the Data Governance Specialist.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Conduct interviews and working sessions with business, development, and operational teams to collect domain knowledge and attribute-level details.
Consolidate documentation for approval by the Data Governance Committee.
Collaborate with development teams to ensure correct usage of governed attributes as system sources of truth.
Work with the Solutions Architecture and Data Engineering teams to support metadata synchronization with the Data Lakehouse.
Support for Data Catalog Implementation
Assist in configuring, documenting, and populating the enterprise data catalog.
Prepare datasets, metadata structures, and governance assets for catalog ingestion.
Validate catalog entries for completeness, consistency, and compliance with governance standards.
AI-Enabled Governance Activities
Support the preparation of metadata and data quality datasets required for AI-driven classification, anomaly detection, and governance automation.
Assist in the validation of AI-generated metadata insights, tagging suggestions, and data quality alerts.
Document and track issues or improvements generated by AI-enabled governance components.
Documentation and Reporting
Create clear, structured documentation for domains, CDEs, metadata, quality rules, and lineage.
Maintain updated governance artifacts in standardized templates.
Prepare operational reports for governance adoption status, data quality results, and metadata completeness.
Requirements and Skills
Experience & Technical Skills
Experience working with data management, business analysis, or data governance initiatives.
Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK disciplines, especially metadata management, data quality, and data modeling.
Familiarity with data catalog tools (Collibra, Alation, Atlan, Informatica, or similar).
Basic to intermediate skills in SQL for validating attributes, profiling data, and supporting quality assessment.
Understanding of data lineage, data lifecycle, and data architecture (Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Data Lakehouse).
Experience documenting business processes, attributes, quality rules, and metadata in a structured manner.
Exposure to AI-assisted metadata discovery or AI-based data quality monitoring is a strong plus.
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
