Primary Function of Position: The Data Engineering Intern will work under the guidance of the Data Engineering Manager to support the development, optimization, and maintenance of data pipelines and infrastructure for Global Operations team. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience with modern data engineering tools and practices, contributing to the success of data-driven initiatives across the organization. The intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data is accessible, reliable, and efficiently processed for analytics and decision-making.

Essential Job Duties 

  • Assist in building and maintaining scalable data pipelines using cloud-based and open-source technologies.
  • Support data ingestion, transformation, and integration from various internal and external sources.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Help monitor and troubleshoot data workflows to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Document data engineering processes and contribute to improving data architecture and best practices.

Required Skills and Experience 

  • Familiarity with SQL and one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Exposure to big data technologies like Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program after the internship.
  • Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

Required Education and Training 

  • Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems or related degree-seeking program at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level.

Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow or Prefect.
  • Exposure to containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
  • Prior internship or project experience in data engineering or related fields.
  • Passion for learning new technologies and working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate), benefits, and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
