You are an engineer with a pragmatic attitude. You are comfortable with the responsibility that comes with putting systems into production. You switch easily between scripting and structured programming in typed programming languages, and you’re familiar with software engineering, cloud, provisioning, streaming, and automation. You know how to build robust, scalable systems ready for real-world use.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will be responsible for implementing foundational data systems and developing infrastructure to store, transform, and process data at scale in the cloud. Always with security, reliability, and future growth in mind.

You use your communication skills as much as your technical skills. You explain your design choices, align stakeholders, and help client teams make confident, informed decisions about their data landscape. You will be surrounded by experts from diverse fields and learn from different environments and industries. It’s not always easy, but it is always rewarding.

You will work on projects of varying lengths. Some are three weeks, some are one year, most are in between. Every project is different, as is every client. You'll work in mixed teams of Xebians and client engineers, contributing directly to the backbone that powers data products.

When on-site with clients, you may encounter something that is very difficult to solve. At Xebia we work as a team and we've got your back. Everyone is just a message away and ready to help! We say People First, and we mean it.

Requirements

What are we looking for

The Data Engineer role is a senior position integral to our teams, so we ask for at least 3 years of relevant work experience. That said, we’re always open to talent that stands out! If you have unique achievements, like contributing to open-source projects or founding your own startup, we encourage you to apply, no matter your experience level.

✅ If you enjoy working with modern new data (infrastructure) tools such as Airflow, Dagster, Spark, Flink, Iceberg, Docker, Terraform, and more!

✅If you understand the importance of cloud (any of AWS, Azure, or GCP) and know your way around, or want to learn.
✅If you like working for different clients and enjoy learning in new environments and meeting new people on a regular basis.
✅ You live in the Netherlands (we are not relocating at the moment)
