At Koala Health, our mission is to make managing your pet’s health simple and enjoyable. We’ve built an innovative online pharmacy that delivers pet medications and supplements in presorted pouches, directly to customers’ doors. As we continue to scale, high-quality, reliable data is becoming increasingly critical to how we operate, measure success, and make decisions.
The Data Engineer will take ownership of Koala Health’s data infrastructure: designing, building, and maintaining our data pipelines, models, and analytics foundation, and evolving it into a trusted, scalable platform used across the organization. Partnering closely with product, operations, growth, finance, and leadership, you will ensure data is accurate, accessible, and actionable, transforming our existing infrastructure into a reliable internal product that balances speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
For this role, we’re seeking a hands-on, highly competent, self-directed engineer who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys building durable systems, and can operate independently without close day-to-day oversight.
This is a remote position for individuals authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Improve the reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency of the data stack as the business grows.
Own incident response and debugging for data issues, proactively identifying and resolving root causes.
Create and maintain clear documentation so data assets are understandable and usable across the company.
Evaluate and implement tooling improvements where it meaningfully improves developer velocity or data quality.

4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or in a similar role with significant end-to-end ownership.

Solid programming experience (Python) for data pipelines and transformations.
Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar).Ability to independently diagnose data quality issues, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes.
Proven ability to work autonomously, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-moving environment.
Strong systems thinking and an instinct for building simple, reliable solutions.
