Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Data Engineer (ITEC SOW6926) – Sage to support increased demand within the ITEC programme area and deliver the ITEC Pillar 2 R7 release. This role will primarily focus on Talend and Oracle RDS systems, operating within established Talend frameworks and delivery patterns. The successful candidate will bring strong ETL expertise, contribute to data engineering best practices, and support development, testing, performance optimisation, and production activities across the release lifecycle.

What you will do:

  • Develop project artefacts including Talend jobs, Oracle DDL, SQL scripts, and GitLab pipeline enhancements.
  • Build and maintain ETL solutions within existing Talend frameworks and patterns.
  • Investigate and resolve defects and issues raised during testing phases.
  • Review colleagues’ development and test artefacts to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
  • Support production promotion activities and provide warranty support post-release.
  • Conduct component testing of developed artefacts, including creation of test data.
  • Support QA teams during test phases and debug issues identified throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Create and execute automated test packs for component testing.
  • Support performance testing activities and optimise data workflows where required.
  • Provide support and guidance to colleagues and mentor junior engineers.
  • Report progress to the Lead Engineer and participate in scrum-of-scrum discussions.

 

  • Experience with Data ETL tools, preferably Talend, with transferable experience from Pentaho or Informatica.
  • Strong experience working with Oracle RDS databases.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Oracle DDL development.
  • Experience enhancing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitLab.
  • Experience conducting component and performance testing in data engineering environments.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional technical teams.
