Under supervision and direction of the Data Center Operations Manager and/or lead engineers, the Data Center Engineer will be responsible for the rack/ cable servers, network, and storage gear, and perform remedial maintenance in a critical Data Center environment. Applicant must have the ability to work with customers to solve specific hardware, operating systems, cabling, and network issues within the various Data Center environments. Candidates must have proven experience in installation and maintenance of Data Center systems as well as troubleshooting experience.

Successful candidate's background must include Ethernet (IEEE Standard 802.3) Local Area Networks (LAN), Enterprise Network topology, and fiber optic systems. Knowledge of IP sub-netting and basic networking is also required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure quality of all project deliveries within the data center
  • Install, remove, or relocate equipment in racks. Modify racks and equipment rails as required, per floor plan and schematic drawings
  • Using floor plans, schematic drawings, or other tools, determine the length of data cables to be manufactured and installed
  • Organize, build, label, secure, and connect ethernet, twin-ax and fiber optic cables at determined locations with the use of cable management methodologies and the use of applicable tools
  • Test cabling in accordance with established procedures
  • Conduct work in areas within a data center raised floor environment including cramped spaces
  • Under direction of Data Center Operations Manager and/or lead engineers fix operating systems, cabling, and network issues
  • Upgrade, repair, or RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) devices as required
  • Manage backup tapes and archival processes
  • Audit devices and connections in the data center
  • Conduct walk-through inspections including critical facilities power, cooling, and fire suppression systems
  • Carry a cell phone and respond to site emergency situations on a 24x7 basis
  • Review, update, and maintain information in data center documentation and service management tools
  • Work with customers to plan and implement data center equipment deployment activities
  • Assist in data center planning
  • Create and review processes, procedures, and other technical documents

Requirements include:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Sciences or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years IT and Data Center Operations experience
  • BICSI certification or equivalent work experience
  • A+ certification or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to lift 50 LBS and work under raised floor
  • Experience with MS Office, and ticketing systems (preferably ServiceNow)
  • Systems and/or Network Administration skills

  • Ability to self-direct, manage, and complete assigned work in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ability to effectively adapt to shifting demands, schedules, and changing work environments
  • Desire to continuously learn and improve Data Center Operations best practices
  • Must be able to travel locally for data center support at multiple sites and for project meetings
  • This position is second shift:
      • Week 1 - Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat with working hours of 7AM-7PM
      • Week 2 - Thurs, Fri, Sat with working hours of 7AM-7PM
