About the Role
We’re looking for a senior architect/lead to standardize how multiple teams consume data from an Azure Databricks-based data lake. Today, different teams are using different approaches, creating duplicated pipelines, weak transparency on usage, and governance/security risk. You’ll assess the current state, define a small set of recommended design patterns for data consumption, and propose a simplified future-state architecture (with a strong focus on Azure Databricks + Power BI).
Contract: interim engagement (expected ~3–4 months), extension possible based on impact.
What You’ll Do
- Assess the current data consumption landscape (multiple teams/pillars, multiple approaches).
- Define and document recommended architecture patterns to consume data from Azure Databricks (repeatable “reference designs”).
- Reduce pipeline sprawl by recommending simplifications across ETL/data movement steps (where feasible).
- Improve transparency/traceability of data usage (governance/lineage mindset).
- Align with highly technical stakeholders (data engineering/data science/platform teams) and present recommendations clearly.
- Support adoption planning: rollout approach, risks, and operating model suggestions (what skills/team shape is needed).
Requirements
- Strong, hands-on experience with Azure Databricks in production environments.
- Proven experience designing data consumption architectures/patterns used across multiple teams (not just building one-off pipelines).
- Solid ETL / data pipeline architecture knowledge (designing, simplifying, governing).
- Strong SQL and experience with downstream consumption layers (SQL Server in the data path is a big plus).
- Power BI familiarity (as the key reporting/consumption layer).
- Senior stakeholder communication skills (can work with very technical teams and drive architectural clarity).
Nice to Have
- Databricks Unity Catalog experience (governance/catalog/permissions).
- Experience building or formalizing a semantic layer.
Benefits
- High-impact architecture work: you’ll set patterns that multiple teams will adopt.
- Enterprise-scale environment with modern data stack (Azure + Databricks).
- Fully remote contractor role (LATAM-friendly)
- Opportunity to work with a global healthcare leader
- High chance of extension after the initial contract
