Customer Platform Engineer

AI overview

Leverage Nix to build and maintain a customer-deployed platform while improving observability, scalability, and security through meticulous engineering and automation.

Who You'll Work With
We are hiring an accomplished mid-to-senior-level software engineer to build and maintain the core platform that underpins our customer-deployed product. This role centers on leveraging Nix to create a reproducible, low-maintenance, and reliable foundation for our services. The ideal candidate works with high autonomy and scrupulous attention to detail. You will join a collaborative, distributed team dedicated to shipping correct and reliable software.

What You'll Do
As a key member of our platform team, your work will involve:

  • Designing, building, and evolving the services and infrastructure that constitute our customer-deployed platform.
  • Using Nix to orchestrate the entire lifecycle of our software, from development environments to customer-facing releases (more focused on the customer-facing platform).
  • Improving the observability, scalability, and security of our platform through meticulous engineering and automation.
  • Participating in our culture of service, open-source involvement, and rigorous collaboration.

This position is for an accomplished mid-to-senior-level engineer who has demonstrated relevant experience, perhaps through a strong open-source portfolio.

Required:

  • Proficiency in Nix and the NixOS ecosystem.
    • Your experience should go beyond basic usage to include packaging complex software, creating custom modules, and managing deployments.
  • Experience building or maintaining distributed systems.
    • You should be comfortable reasoning about the challenges inherent in a microservices architecture.
      • A strong understanding of Linux systems, including administration, networking, and containerization.
      • Experience with principles and tools for CI/CD, performance monitoring, and observability.

Preferred:

  • A keen interest in typed functional programming. While not required, proficiency in a language like Haskell or Scala is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with on-premises infrastructure and self-hosted services.

Values

  • We value compassion
    • We believe our mission is one of service to others, whether that is protecting our  customers from harm or empowering other developers to do work they are proud of.
  • We value humility
    • Humility matters to everyone on the engineering team in Arista NDR. We accept the sobering reality that we as humans make mistakes, forget things easily, and have over-inflated confidence in our grasp of complexity. We value humility because we think it leads to better solutions (social or technological) and better understanding.
  • We value reliability
    • We believe that software should free people to do their most creative work. Therefore, we value low maintenance software and technology that empowers us to write it.
