Mission

The critical thinking scientist will develop proficiency at all aspects of customer consulting projects, including designing and conducting robust experiments, analyzing the data to develop an understanding of its implications, and communicating results directly to the customer through written reports and/or presentations. Additionally, the critical thinking scientist will contribute to thought leadership and experimentation related to internal research and development projects. These tasks will be conducted efficiently and with close attention to quality in order to drive company growth. Some instrumentation the critical thinking scientist may use include water contact angle, FTIR spectroscopy, XPS, and optical and electron microscopy, among other techniques.

What will I be doing?

• Within 6 months:
  • Become competent in the basic laboratory techniques and other business methods used at Brighton Science
  • Demonstrate a thorough command of basic surface chemistry concepts and industry knowledge base
  • Be able to fully perform customer consulting projects from experimental design to execution and reporting.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills through creation of reports that require little or no editing of format or content prior to submission to customers
• Within 8 months:
  • Report consulting projects to customers independently
  • Effectively interact with customers and help resolve their issues through design of effective experimental programs
• Within 12 months:
  • Communicate exciting and relevant non-proprietary results through a conference presentation, a technical white paper, journal article, and/or webinar presentation

We would love to hear from you if you have:

• A degree (B.S., M.S., Ph.D.) in chemistry, physics, material science, or chemical engineering. Candidates with backgrounds in other sciences/engineering disciplines relevant to the job description will be considered based on experience and qualifications.
• ~3 or more years laboratory experience preferred (internships and graduate research experience count towards this)
• Experience problem solving in industrial and manufacturing environments 
• A mind that questions everything and is driven to seek understanding

• Effective written and oral communication
• Excitement for and engagement in learning
