This role
Responsibilities
Define the credit risk agenda for Indonesia — identify the highest-priority problems the function needs to solve, determine how to approach them, and be accountable for outcomes at the country level
Lead PayJoy’s risk strategy function in Indonesia with domain expertise and a quantitative approach to risk strategy. If you don’t love driving the quantitative aspects of risk strategy this is not the job for you.
Build the end-to-end credit risk framework from the ground up: underwriting policy, credit limit strategy, scorecard operationalization, and collections risk approach
Apply, evaluate, and refine predictive credit models, working closely with data science to translate model outputs into credit policy and decisioning rules
Set the direction for portfolio monitoring and loss mitigation — define what to measure, how to interpret it, and what actions to take
Own the regulatory relationship with OJK directly; be the accountable leader for all credit risk compliance obligations under the Indonesian multi-finance company (MFC) framework
Bring country leadership, product, and global stakeholders along on the credit risk strategy journey — setting the agenda and tailoring our financial offer for overall financial success in Indonesia
Leverage modern AI-powered developer tools (such as Claude Code) to streamline and automate recurring analytical processes, improving the speed and reliability of credit risk workflows
Recruit, build, and develop a credit risk team as the Indonesia business scales — defining the structure, hiring bar, and operating model for the function you’ve created
Requirements
10+ years of credit risk experience, with a track record of defining strategy and owning outcomes — not just executing within someone else’s framework
Deep understanding of the Indonesian lending landscape; experience with multi-finance companies (MFC) or consumer finance regulated by OJK strongly preferred
Having passed OJK’s Fit and Proper Test (FPT) is preferred; candidates who have not yet completed it should be prepared to do so as part of onboarding into a licensed MFC leadership role
Demonstrated ability to build a credit risk function or framework from scratch in a market, not just manage within an established one
Proven ability to apply and operationalize credit models — translating analytical outputs into underwriting policy and decisioning rules
Strong hands-on technical skills in SQL and Python — you can go deep in the data yourself and hold your team to the same standard
Experience with AI/ML applications in credit risk (e.g., gradient boosting models, alternative data, real-time scoring)
Comfortable leveraging modern AI tools to improve analytical efficiency and automate recurring workflows
Highly effective at influencing without authority — you set direction for stakeholders who don’t report to you and bring them along through rigor and credibility
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and making high-stakes decisions with incomplete information
Willingness to be based in Jakarta; candidates from outside Indonesia are welcome to apply and relocation support will be provided
Benefits
100% Company Funded : Private Health Insurance for employee and immediate family
20 days vacation
Phone finance, Headphone, home office equipment and wellness perks.
$2,000 USD annual Co-working Travel perk
$2,000 USD annual Professional Development perk
