The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for the position of Costume Shop Staff. CATF, a LORT D summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays, is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays per season in 3 venues. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community. Located 90 minutes from DC, CATF makes its home in one of America's coolest small towns, Shepherdstown, WV.
Members of the Costume Shop Staff works under the supervision of the Costumes Director (Shop Manager) and in coordination with designers to oversee costumes builds, and fit, alter, construct, organize, and finish costumes for the season’s six productions. Costume Shop staff may also lead wardrobe crews on 1-2 productions and supervise and participate in costume maintenance and laundering during the run.
Applicants should have experience with standard theatrical costume construction and alteration techniques and tools, draping, patterning and/or crafts. Significant costume construction experience (in education or professionally) is necessary and previous experience as a first hand or stitcher is preferred. Some work on ladders and catwalks (up to 20') may be required depending on venue and show assignment.
Position is seasonal, from June 2 to August 4. All staff and interns are provided free air-conditioned housing within walking distance of the theaters and workspaces (also air conditioned,) 1-2 meals per day during tech, and free use of university gym, pool, and laundry facilities.
