About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Controller to lead our accounting function, ensuring financial integrity and providing the precise data required for strategic decision-making. As a healthcare technology company operating in a value-based care environment, this role is critical in translating complex payer and provider contracts into accurate, auditable revenue recognition, cost allocation, and financial reporting.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will own the entire financial close process, manage technical accounting compliance (GAAP), oversee internal controls, and serve as the primary liaison for all external audit and tax matters. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep expertise in the unique accounting challenges presented by performance-based contracts common in value-based care.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Financial Close & Reporting: Own the entire monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
  • Technical Accounting & Compliance (Value-Based Care): Serve as the in-house expert on technical accounting matters, particularly revenue recognition (ASC 606) for shared savings/risk contracts, and performance-based incentive payments typical in the value-based healthcare space.
  • Cost Accounting & Unit Economics: Oversee the development and maintenance of robust cost accounting methodologies, ensuring accurate calculation of Per Member Per Month (PMPM) costs, Contribution Margins, and other critical unit economics metrics used for market performance analysis.
  • Audit & Tax Management: Manage all aspects of the annual external financial audit, statutory audits, and tax compliance (including working with external tax partners). Ensure proper internal controls (SOX-like compliance) are designed, documented, and operating effectively.
  • System and Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and systems, including optimizing the General Ledger (GL) structure
  • Balance Sheet Management: Own the integrity of the Balance Sheet, including managing cash flow, overseeing fixed assets (including software capitalization under ASC 350-40), and ensuring accurate accruals and reserves.
  • Team Leadership: Build a small and effective corporate accounting team, setting priorities, fostering professional development, and ensuring alignment with the company's financial goals.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Certification: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required (inactive okay).
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role, ideally within a high-growth company.
  • Healthcare Accounting Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience in accounting for value-based care (VBC) arrangements, including capitation, shared savings/risk models, and accounting for IBNR (Incurred But Not Reported) or similar liabilities/reserves related to delegated financial risk.
  • Technical Accounting: Expertise in applying and documenting complex technical accounting standards (US GAAP), including revenue recognition (ASC 606) for subscription or services-based business models.
  • System Fluency: Strong working knowledge of major ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intaact) and proficiency with advanced data analysis tools (Excel, data cubes/BI tools).
  • Audit Management: Proven experience managing annual external audits with Big Four or regional accounting firms.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (MBA).
  • Experience in a healthcare technology (Health Tech) or payer/provider organization with high transactional volume.
  • Experience overseeing the capitalization of internally developed software (ASC 350-40).
  • Prior experience scaling a Finance function in a rapidly growing environment (e.g., Series B through IPO readiness).
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, or optimizing internal controls and documentation (e.g., SOX preparation).

No two patients or musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are the same. Treatment plans shouldn’t be either. But knowing the right path to resolving joint, back and muscle pain isn't easy. That leads to too many unnecessary, ineffective surgeries and less-than-favorable health outcomes that don’t meet patient or provider expectations.   In a system where 1 in 3 patients regret their decision to have a total joint replacement and up to 34% of patients continue to have long-term pain following surgery, a new approach is overdue.   TailorCare is answering the call. Our comprehensive care program takes a deeply personal, evidence-based approach to improving patient outcomes for joint, back, and muscle conditions. By combining a careful assessment of patients’ symptoms, health histories, preferences, and goals with predictive data and latest evidence-based guidelines, we help patients choose—and navigate—the most effective treatment pathway for them, every step of the way. The result? Improved treatment adherence, better care journeys, optimal patient outcomes, and a more efficient system for all.
