SmartBug Media is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Controller to lead our financial operations. You will be responsible for ensuring a high-quality, GAAP-compliant monthly close, daily accounting operations, managing the consolidation of three subsidiaries, and overseeing an offshore bookkeeping team. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is proficient in modern accounting technology. Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for financial data integrity and internal controls
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the accounting function
  • Architect of the Chart of Accounts and financial structures to support scalable reporting
  • Oversee and mentor a third-party bookkeeping and billing offshore team of three dedicated resources 
  • Respond to requests from cross-functional teams, including pulling reports and participating in process improvements 
  • Ensure transparency, collaborate with external auditors and prepare audit-ready documentation 
  • Drive the monthly financial close process within 5 business days
  • Lead monthly budget variance analysis in collaboration with cross-functional leaders
  • Build and maintain KPI dashboards that track company performance
  • Manage revenue & AR Aging process, along with collection oversight weekly
  • Opportunity to grow into a senior manager/director and scale with the company as the finance team expands alongside the company’s growth
  • Required Skills & Responsibilities
  • Education:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance and CPA or relevant professional certifications preferred
  • Experience:5-7 years of extensive, hands-on finance and accounting experience, including consolidation
  • Leadership Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a leadership or managerial role, with a proven track record of managing direct reports or external vendors/offshore teams
  • Technical Proficiency:Expert-level knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO), proficiency in Excel, G-Sheets (GoogleSuite), and Numeric (accounting tasks and close management software), or similar tools 
  • Power Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical mindset, “you don’t just report numbers, you look for the why behind the variance”, and a proven track record of working independently and collaboratively. Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

  • Technical Proficiency:Experience in optimizing finance and accounting tech stack integrations to automate financial dashboards and manual accounting entries/processes
  • Power Skills: Experience in a digital marketing agency or professional services environment
  • Salary
    $100,000 – $120,000 per year
