Role Summary:

We’re looking for a hands-on Controller to own and optimize all aspects of accounting and financial operations. This is a key leadership role for a finance leader with SaaS experience, particularly in revenue recognition (ASC 606), GAAP reporting, and scalable accounting systems.

What You’ll Do:

• Own and lead all core accounting operations, including GL, AR/AP, payroll, fixed assets, and tax compliance.

• Drive SaaS revenue recognition under ASC 606, ensuring accuracy across contracts, renewals, and usage-based models.

• Manage capitalization of software development and commissions under ASC 350 and ASC 985, maintaining audit-ready documentation.

• Build and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and SOX-compliant processes.

• Lead month-end and quarter-end close with precision, delivering accurate, timely financial statements and variance analysis.

• Partner with FP&A to align financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting with strategic company goals.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Product to improve contract management, billing, and financial reporting.

• Lead automation and process improvement initiatives using ERP systems like NetSuite, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics.

• Manage external audits and maintain GAAP and regulatory compliance.

• Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team that embodies operational excellence and accountability.

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years as a Controller and/or Sr. Controller in a SaaS or technology company.

• Deep expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition and ASC 350/985 capitalization principles.

• Proven success managing audits, implementing internal controls, and ensuring GAAP/SOX compliance.

• Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics) and financial process automation.

• Strong leadership and mentorship skills — able to develop teams through clarity, accountability, and support.

• Excellent analytical and communication skills; able to translate complex financial data into actionable insight.

• Passion for startups, scale, and building systems from scratch.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a high-growth SaaS startup environment (Series B–D, $20M–$100M ARR).

• Familiarity with subscription and billing platforms.

• Experience managing international operations and multi-currency accounting.

We value in-person collaboration and connection. For Bay Area–based employees, this role requires being in our San Mateo office at least three days a week. For remote employees, occasional travel to headquarters is expected for company-wide events and onsite gatherings.
