We are looking for a Control/Automation Engineer who will be primarily focused on the hands-on maintenance, repair, and optimization of the complex electrical, control, and automation systems and high-precision equipment used in diamond wafer manufacturing and production. This role involves extensive, hands-on troubleshooting, optimizing existing control logic, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure equipment reliability and performance. This position is based in Zaragoza, Spain with occasional travel to other worldwide Diamond Foundry locations. Responsibilities
  • Perform hands-on maintenance, repair, and advanced troubleshooting of complex electrical, control, and automation systems, including inspection tools, CNC lasers, and parts-handlers. Ensure high equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Optimize and fine-tune existing control logic and high-precision equipment settings to maximize performance and minimize operator interaction time.
  • Work with the US automation control team to support upgrades and system modifications, providing field expertise and feedback on design and implementation.
  • Write and maintain clear technical documentation for equipment use and troubleshooting procedures, and train and support technicians on correct operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to source system components from vendors and support procurement efforts for repair and maintenance.
  • Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in electrical/computer engineering or a similar engineering discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience.
  • Proven hands-on experience with electrical, software, and/or mechanical systems in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (e.g., Siemens PLC programming) and motion control systems, industrial vision systems
  • Experience with SCADA systems (e.g., Inductive Automation Ignition) and industrial networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, MQTT, IIoT, Modbus, RS232, ProfiNet, IO-Link). Familiarity with programming languages like Python and C++/C, and robotic systems.
  • Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing processes or quality control systems. Ability to work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal stakeholders.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish with strong communication skills, effective at communicating technical data to audiences of all experience levels.
