Contract Programmer

AI overview

Manage programming and delivery workflows for award-winning journalism across multiple platforms, playing a key role in optimizing audience engagement on YouTube.

Business Insider is seeking a highly organized and detail-driven programmer to work with us on a 10 week contract.

In this pivotal role, you will manage the programming and delivery of our award winning journalism across FAST, CTV, O&O, third-party platforms, and social channels—including YouTube. You’ll build and manage the workflows that support the seamless publishing operations of our journalism.

Working across editorial, ad ops, social, and syndicated platforms, you’ll own the calendar and help coordinate multiple scheduled video feeds. You’ll also play a key role in optimizing our delivery strategy on YouTube and other social platforms, ensuring each piece of journalism reaches the right audience with the right impact.

This is a contract position, working 20 hours per week for 10 weeks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage workflows for video programming and delivery across FAST, CTV, O&O, social, and partner platforms

  • Maintain the Master Calendar to coordinate programming schedules, platform feeds, direct-sold ads, and promotional placements

  • Ensure platform-specific delivery specs, metadata, and publishing requirements are met consistently

  • Work closely with marketing and revenue teams to ensure timely and accurate placement of branded content and sponsorships

  • Troubleshoot delivery issues, manage timelines, and maintain clear cross-team communication

  • Monitor platform performance and contribute to evolving best practices across feeds and channels

The ideal candidate has:

  • Deep understanding of linear scheduling logic:  Knows how to build dayparts, marathons, stunts, and thematic blocks that maximize time spent viewing.

  • Genre specialization: Strong instincts in one or more FAST-friendly genres (classic TV, crime, reality, lifestyle, news, sports shoulder content, kids, etc.).

  • Audience-first mindset: Programs for passive, lean-back viewers rather than on-demand “choice overload.”

  • Content curation skills: Can package library content into compelling, repeatable channel concepts.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: $50/hr
