Content Designer

TLDR

Contribute to the core combat system of a new game, focusing on character abilities and game balance while collaborating closely with a design team.

Ludia is looking for a Content Designer to work directly with the design team, artists, and developers on the core combat system of an unannounced game. You should have extensive knowledge in free-to-play RPG design.

You should be adept at developing a roster of characters with specific combat abilities, bringing extensive knowledge of design synergy, game balance, and meta-game strategies to the table.

Responsibilities:

On a day to day basis, you will report to the Senior Combat Designer and you will:

● Work on different systems that influence the game balance:

  • Character Stats
  • Character Abilities
  • Group Abilities
  • Character Roles and Archetypes
  • Character Rarities
  • Character Upgrades
  • Character Popularity (with the Product Manager) Character Creation (Design + Data entry)

● Create Character’s Abilities according to their impact in the Metagame and based on the franchise:

○ Paper Design

  • Narrative research on the Character in the Lore
  • Understand the Role/Impact of the character in the current established Metagame
  • Create GDDs. the High-Level Design, Mid-Level Design and Low-Level Design.
  • Collaborate with the VFX artist to define the actual visual of the ability

○ Integrate the Character in Unity (using Placeholder assets)

  • Create the character using our Character tool with visual programming connecting boxes together (Name, Stats, Roles…)
  • Create the Abilities using our Ability Editor (Attacks, Passive…)
  • Integrate all the remaining Data and Assets in order to make the character playable

○ Playtest the Character in-game and validate the initial intentions

  • Use the Battle Editor to do test battles Balancing (Excel + Simulation Tools)

● Balancing (Excel + Simulation Tools)

○ Do a balancing pass on the implemented characters

  • Create simulations using Excel and identify the expectations
  • Run different simulations with the characters using our Simulation tools

■ Create different presets

■ Run the simulations

■ Analyze the results and create a report

  • Do the modifications and tweaks according to the expectations

What we're looking for:

  • Serious passion for games—you are a gamer and have been for years.
  • 2+ years of experience as a game/combat designer.
  • Shipped and/or worked on the Live Ops teams of at least 1 Free-to-Play game.   
  • Social, online and/or mobile game design experience.
  • Thorough understanding of games' commercial appeal, including outside your personal gamer demographic.
  • A proficiency level in English.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with Puzzle RPG’s
  • Bilingualism French and English
  • Experience with Spreadsheet & Unity.
