Construction Estimator

Position Overview

The Construction Estimator is responsible for analyzing construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates and competitive bids for commercial construction projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge of construction documents, digital quantity takeoffs, and cost analysis.

 

The Estimator works closely with internal preconstruction, sales, and project management teams to ensure bids are complete, competitive, and aligned with project requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

Plan Review & Scope Analysis

•     Review architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda to determine full project scope

•     Interpret construction documents including finish schedules, elevations, sections, and detail drawings

•     Identify scope requirements, exclusions, and potential risk factors within the bid documents

•     Track and incorporate revisions from addenda and updated plan sets

Quantity Takeoffs

•     Perform accurate digital quantity takeoffs from construction drawings

•     Measure floor, wall, and vertical surface areas for materials including tile, stone, and related finish materials

•     Calculate material quantities including square footage, linear footage, trim pieces, waterproofing systems, and accessory components

•     Validate takeoff quantities against architectural finish schedules

Cost Estimating

•     Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs

•     Apply company labor production rates to estimate installation durations and labor costs

•     Solicit and evaluate supplier and vendor pricing

•     Build cost breakdowns and estimate summaries for internal review

 

Bid Preparation & Submission

•     Prepare bid proposals in accordance with project bid instructions

•     Ensure scope coverage aligns with contract documents and specifications

•     Maintain organized estimate files including takeoffs, assumptions, clarifications, and exclusions

•     Participate in internal bid review meetings prior to submission

 

Preconstruction Coordination

•     Coordinate with project managers and leadership to review estimate assumptions

•     Identify potential value engineering opportunities

•     Provide estimate breakdowns and documentation for project handoff when projects are awarded

Required Qualifications

•     3 or more years of construction estimating experience

•     Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings

•     Proficiency performing digital quantity takeoffs from construction plans

•     Experience reviewing project specifications and finish schedules

•     Experience preparing detailed construction cost estimates

•     Strong analytical and mathematical skills

•     High level of attention to detail and accuracy

 

Technical Requirements

Candidates must have experience with one or more of the following digital takeoff platforms:

 

•     Measure Square

•     PlanSwift

•     On-Screen Takeoff

•     Bluebeam Revu

•     Stack Takeoff

 

Additional technical experience preferred:

 

•     Excel or Google Sheets for cost analysis and estimate formatting

•     Construction document management platforms such as Procore, BuildingConnected, or similar bid platforms

•     Familiarity with CSI MasterFormat divisions and construction specifications

 

Preferred Experience

•     Estimating experience within commercial construction trades

•     Experience estimating tile, stone, flooring, or finish systems

•     Experience working within general contractor bid processes

•     Familiarity with waterproofing systems, underlayment systems, and substrate preparation requirements

 

Requirements

This is a full time role

Up to $8/hr
