About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established and growing construction company in the Woodstock, GA area, is seeking a Construction Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing job cost accounting, financial reporting, WIP management, and partnering with operations to drive project profitability.
This position is ideal for a hands-on construction accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building processes, managing teams, and supporting executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation
Manage the general ledger and ensure timely and accurate month-end close
Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
Provide financial analysis and reporting to senior leadership
Job Costing & WIP
Lead job cost accounting and cost tracking across multiple projects
Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
Ensure accurate percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
Analyze project performance and identify cost variances
Partner with project managers on forecasting and margin improvement
Compliance & Controls
Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
Ensure GAAP compliance and alignment with construction accounting standards
Coordinate with external auditors, CPA firms, and tax advisors
Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and lien waiver processes
Manage bonding, insurance reporting, and surety relationships
Leadership & Systems
Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Evaluate and optimize accounting/ERP systems and reporting tools
Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5–10+ years of accounting experience, including construction industry experience
Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and POC revenue recognition
Experience with construction ERP systems (Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar)
Advanced Excel skills
CPA or CMA preferred
Strong leadership, communication, and analytical abilities
